I'll stand corrected here as I have a D40, but I do have access to a Ranger with manual gearshifts.
2wd - 4wd high = Clutch in and shift on the second (4wd stick) gearshift done preferably on a straight and at low speed or stopped.
4wd high - 2wd = same as above
Using the 4wd low in/out you must be stopped, in neutral with clutch in.
Also as with all Navaras (and Rangers), when using 4wd make sure at least one of the wheels can slip (no road driving) to prevent gearbox wind up. This is apparent when it feels like the truck won't freewheel when steering. This will eventually (not too many miles) cause a catastrophic failure. If you do a search on here for gearbos wind up there is a longer and much more detailed explanation.

good stuff, thanks for that. But i still have 1 problem, how do i even get it into 2 high? Should i start driving slowly with the 4x4 gear box in netural, and then try and shift to 4 high while im slowly moving?

 

No, low to high range you MUST be stationary.
You can only change from 2 hi to 4 hi and back on the move, nut even then you may have to stop and back up to get the hubs to drop out when going from 4 back to 2 high.

i suppose it kinds of releives itself when you pass through neutral from 4wd to 2wd

 

It will destroy the internals of the transfer case. Anyone wanna try it and show us pics of your blown transfer case.

NNM I know what will happen when you try and drive with the transfer in neutral.

Should have bought a proper 4x4 with permanent 4x4.
Like a Range Rover with a lovely big V8.

I would take a part time system any day over a AWD system.

2 I would take a Patrol anyday over a Land/Range Rover.
