Hi all, similar to some previous posters I have a mysterious water loss. There are definitely no leaks and am pretty sure that the headgasket isn't blown since there is no white smoke.

Should I try bypassing the egr as my next course of action? (already blanked)

I'd try run a pressure test on it before doing owt major.
Certainly bypass the egr cooler if ya can.
Have you lifted the carpets ? Check and make sure heater isn't leaking, the d40 carpet underlay holds water back well.. May not show damp on the carpet top.

Mine was presure tested turn out to be ok 4 times when he stripped it he tested it again was goosed.
You need to think how the presure getting into the system I mentioned the egr to the garage he said he had tested it was fine.

So it down to him now to foot the bill as he has not fixed it twice.

You could also bypass the heater matrix to try that instead of stripping down the dash

Have you checked your oil level, I always check for water in the oil and oil (and exhaust fumes) in the water but I drive a d22 so it comes with the terrortory

Did some digging around this morning. It does seem to be a leak around the thermostat area. Really difficult to find the source being tucked under the turbo.
Will find a garage to pressure test it next week.
The pressure test needs to be monitored over a decent amount of time as I've seen tiny leaks like this spraying onto hot areas such as exhaust manifolds/turbos thus giving no evidence of any leakage.
If it's got those poxy spring clip type hose clips fitted, they can loose their compression effect because they cause an impression on the rubber hose without any grip :puker: I always replace these clips with good old jubilee type clips as they retain their grip over a wider surface area :thumbright:
Maybe replacement of these clips might be an option/cure before spending too many ÂŁ's.
Certainly, by-passing the matrix and EGR will seal the cooling system to a given area to investigate and also eliminate these components from investigation :thumbleft:

On further inspection there is water trickling out between the head and the block just above and to the left of the thermostat.

So either headgasket or cracked head. Another call to Dave at billcar.
Ooo, not good news mate :cry and cylinder head removal for closer inspection :pale:
