Hi all, just bought myself a 2004 D22 and have a couple of niggles I'd like to share! One is this horrible drone noise coming from somewhere passenger side possibly behind the dash, it will do it when stood still and gently rev the engine and also while driving, at very low revs and high revs it is fine.
I'm kind of thinking maybe engine mountings or maybe UV joint?

Thanks in advance

Can't be a UJ if the truck is NOT moving can it?
The front exhaust support brackets are well known for rusting away, I would look to here first.
Are you well aware of the self destructing habits of these engines?

i had similiar on my d22
check the engine air trunking on the passenger wing, mine was vibrating like a good un just like yours

i removed mine and stuck a piece of foam between the trunking/wing and re fitted problem was solved

A friend of mine has the same motor and he stuffed all sorts behind his dash then after a couple of months he felt a vibration so changed his universal joint and everything was back to normal I'm popping to my local in the morning and going to check it out on the ramps, just in case! I've been hunting around for a while and found this d22 had a recon with mods done, bodywork has had some abuse but rather that than a time bomb...

I'll def check the passenger side, sounds very suspect.

Big thanks

Mine made this 'drone' noise stationary.
Next time it makes this noise change the fan speed to the next level up/faster and see if the noise changes or goes away.
It was the heater motor fan 'droning' due to a dry bearing.
The motor is located behind the glovebox. Remove the three securing screws, disconect the wire plug and pull out the motor and fan blade.
I removed the blade and sprayed some 3-in-1 oil/WD40 into the motor spindle shaft, re-assembled refitted it and the 'drone' was gone :thumbleft:

You did state, quote.
"it will do it when stood still and gently rev the engine"
Therefore the propshaft cannot be spinning.

Agree with Chris :thumbleft:
If it does it whilst stationary I'd say the whole of the drive-train can be ruled out :thumbright:

Correct guys sorry about my confusion, I agree when stationary the noise is there and mainly rev associated. Just been on the ramps and all good UJ solid and exhaust brackets fine. I'll check out the trunking next, is it easy to get to?

TIA

Top marks and a doddle to do, the pipe connecting to the air box had an area of foam which had worn away, I simply removed, stuck double sided foam tape then a thin layer of foam around the joint and hey presto, no more drone!

Thanks again!
