Hi

I’m looking to sell my existing car and getting a Navara.

I’ve been reading a lot of reviews and decided to go for a manual.

I’m reading so many horror stores like clutches going, half shafts failing, gear boxes need rebuilding etc.

Is the Navara really this unreliable?

I am look out for an Aventura. What years should I be looking at?

Thanks

James

If you go for post 2007 then you wont have a half shaft problem. If you go for an auto then you wont have the clutch problem. What you will have is the mpg problem. Euro 4 engines are not as economic as Euro 3 and autos are not as economic as manuals.

My 2006 Euro 3 manual does approx 34mpg when not towing. Yes, I have spent out on a new 'solid flywheel' & clutch and proper replacement for the halfshaft problem. If you prefer manual you are always going to have to replace the clutch sometime (at least it is a finite cost - unlike an auto if anything does go wrong with that).

Its make your mind up time.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. So ideally I need to get

- Post 2007
- Manual
- Black
- Aventura

How much does it tend to cost to change the clutch and fly wheel? Does it need to be replaced very often? I'm readin some cases of every 20,000 miles.

I wont use the car to tow anything.

Thanks

James

Hello James. I wouldn't say the nav is any worse than any other vehicle to own as far as reliability is concerened. I've had two, and apart from the odd niggle they've been great ........... every car i've owned has had the odd niggle. As for MPG, if it's a real problem, then a 4x4 is the wrong vehicle type for you, other wise, yes, there is some variation between models/auto/manual etc ... but you makes your choice, personally i like the hands on of a manual.
What i would do myself is buy as new/ low milage as the budget allows .................. :thumbleft:

Just had my clutch / flywheel done for approx £600 (other work being done for me at the same time so cant say exact cost). My Nav had done 70,000 miles before clutch change and I certainly towed while I had it (cant say about the previous owner, although I would guess he did).

Hi James,
I had mine converted to a solid flywheel and a new clutch fitted last week. It cost me £700 all in. Yes they have problems but do do lots of other motors...
The Navara is a cracking bit of kit pal, I'm with Tucker on that one :)
Hope ya find yourself a good one!

Hi James,

Welcome on board, I have a 57 plate navara in black with very low miles and it has been a cracking 4x4, Tows like a train with my digger on the back or horse box and is doing 35mpg. Had no problems at all.
I had a mitsubishi l200 before and the navara is top of the list as the l200 is plastic and made very cheap,
The auto version mpg on navara is terrible compaired to manual as i am getting 150 miles more to a tank than my friend who has a auto.
At the end of the day the choice is yours james but at least with a manual you can control it, :thumbright:

Regards

James
