Looking around and thinking of removing my dpf I come across a few querys
With the ever looming threat of changing the law regarding dpf function test at mot time ive been thinking of ways round it and i came up with replace it and keep my undamaged dpf spare to refit at mot time if the law changes
Now I could fit a gutted out dpf. but nobody sells them cheep enough to warrant ripping its guts out.
so what I though was fit a straight through pipe and since in 2007 it was only the automatic gearboxes that had dfp most people wouldn't know if it should have one or not
Now the only by-pass pipes I can find are stainless steel and that would stand out like herpies at an orgy
So i was thinking would the standerd down pipe off a manual (no dpf) fit on a automatic?
I'd gut the cat at the same time and it would (at least to the un-knowing) look totaly original
Query 2
once dpf is removed I would have to get it remaped (not a problem I want to remap it anyway) but how many miles would it get before the ecu realises theres a problem and go into fault mode?
And what do I do with the pipes/wires now not connected?
Cheers guys alot of questions over morning coffee but that's when I get my bright sparks lol

The new rules come in this spring . Basically as long as your engine does not produce smoke they wont look at the CAT,DPF or EGR . If it does it will be a straight fail and you will need to re install the equipment that has been deleted . It has also been suggested that any that fail may be subjected to extra spot checks at VOSA roadside inspections using ANPR cameras in future as there is political pressure to keep on top of them.
How is the smoke measured? Is it by eye or probe in the exhaust?

It is tested by the smoke meter used in the present test plus a database of smoke figures thatwas established when the vehicles went for TA. Also they have the power to stop you at any time and check if your vehicle is as it should be . They were checking a load of small commercials last week a long with fuel on the A47 at Wisbech at the filling station. In spot checks they looking for missing bits and not basing it on the smoke test.
Mmm so maby a gutted dpf would be the best way?
