morning navara peoples!

I've had my d22 for about 6 months now, and this week its started misbehaving in an unusual manner. all is well, perfect infact, when under approx. 3k rpm.

starts as it always does, (usually a little smoky on start up when totally cold) - warms up nicely, no issues, and as long as 3 k isn't reached you would never realise an issue. when slowly accelerating to the 3 k mark, the rev counter starts bouncing/fluctuating anything between 100 and 500 rpm, with intermittent "hiccups" where for a fraction of a second it seems to almost cut out???? and the coil light (heater plugs) flashes on for a few seconds then off.

if (when warmed up obviously) sharp acceleration is performed, once 3k is reached all hell breaks loose! the cars hesitates massively, likes its completely cut out for a second or so then revs cuts out etc and the rev counter drops to 0 for that cut out second, and both the engine management and coil light flash until you lift off and then peace is restored until the hiccups etc over 3k driving normaly.

any ideas or suggestions?

This may sound weird but please do check your battery and alternator. When not running you should have 12v on the battery pools. When running at least 14v. A bad battery can give you all kind of weird stuff and a bad alternator is really weird some time. It could be something different but do this test to be sure.

I was thinking a sensor/something electrical due to the bouncing rev counter. battery is only 5 months old but not inconceivable its developed a fault I suppose - I did have issues with the main earth loose recently so i'll give it a try

There may be an electrical issue as pointed out and it is well worth checking/cleaning and remaking earth points.

A new fuel filter and a blank on your EGR valve would be a good idea as well. Another point to check is your intercooler, any leak here will cause a loss of power along with an increase in exhaust smoke.

My guess from others experience is you have a dodgy Neutral Position Switch (NPS) on the gearbox. This causes the ECU to limit fuel supply when in neutral. A cheap and easy fix.

Good luck

I was thinking NPS after viewing a few of the topics. worth a try I s,pose. and i'll check to earths again and the like, starting with basics. I was thinking, I had it grounded out/stuck the other week. any conectors low down ion the box/transferbox that may have experienced collateral damage?
