Sadly the opposite is true. Most manufacturers these days are relying on electronic "limited slip" functionality, i.e. using the brakes and ABS sensors to slow down a spinning wheel. This is better than nothing, but not comparable to a proper mechanical diff, especially off road but also for "on the limit" handling when you are on-road. Sadly the cost of a proper lockable or limited slip differential seems prohibitive compared to using the ABS system which is already in place.

Note: Maclaren actually prefer the electronic approach due to supposed weight savings, but many complain that it is still unpredictable compared to a mechanical diff.
