Hello. I’m Craig from the Wales. I’m after some advice for my 2008 Navara adventure d40 auto. There’s a couple of questions I’ve got about my truck.

Firstly the engine management light is on my dash and the code is p0135. O2 sensors bank 1. I can’t seem to find where the sensor is and was wondering could anyone guide me in the right direction? Eg, drivers side, do I need to remove the wheel arch covers? I’ve read a lot and can’t seem to find anything in detail on the location.

Secondly I’ve got a rattle noise about 2000rpm if I’m driving steady, it accelerate hard it goes away but only at around that rpm. Same again I’ve read all sorts about fuel injectors but just wondered if it is normal? I here some diesel cars on the road and it doesn’t sound any different to be honest. I’m due a service and I got all the things to do myself, correct oil, fuel filter etc.

Any advice will be a massive help.

Sensors are located in the exhaust.

Maybe this picture will help:

As for the rattle noise, if it isn't effecting things like power/tickover etc etc, you can only do one of two things with this type of noise, 1, Allow the fault/noise to develop, or 2, Strip everything down for an inspection. Since the latter could involve ridiculous levels of inspection, I would say drive carefully and choose option 1. (all of that is without having heard the noise of course, it could be a serious fault causing the noise!)

With regard to the service, you should have no problems with that if it's a basic service. Oil/filter (refuse to listen to people who recommend removing the wheel arch lining or anything else crazy like that for the oil filter change, it can be done easily from the top, regardless of which nugget may have tightened the filter to 90 odd Nm), fuel filter, cabin air and intake air filter, general check over hoses/pipes for cracks/leaks/damage etc. If you want to go real deep on the PM checks, you want to verify differential/gearbox oil levels and condition, thorough check for gasket leaks etc. You want to jack up each wheel in turn and check all suspension joints, wheel bearings and while you're under there, prop shaft UJ's, brake lines/flexi hoses, steering connections and rack. And since you have the wheels off, go over the brakes too. Min. pad thickness on the front is 7.5mm, check the discs. Pop the rear drums off and have a check in there, look for leaky cylinders, check brake shoe lining and lip on the drum for wear anything else nasty replace it. That's just a few things to look at.

I am constantly scanning my vehicles and performing major PM's, for all of the above and a lot more. Preventative Maintenance is much better than a breakdown. Deeper you go the better. Of course, I don't mean whipping the head off to check for bore glaze every month, that's a little too deep!!

Oh, and don't pay too much for your service parts like all filters and oil. Make sure the oil is the best but pay no more than about £25 for 5L delivered (the best is available for that price). Some people try to rip you on fuel filters too, again, buy the best (Mann, Herth & Buss, Delphi, Borg & Beck etc), £20-25 delivered.

If you look carefully, the best quality parts are generally cheaper than the cheap ones you found without trying... does that make sense?!
