hi all im new to the site and navaras and i have just acquired myself an 03 D22 double cab cyprus import with only 1 owner (local farmer),ive only had it 23 days and done around 45 mile and its broke down after i give it a good jet wash just seeing as it was from a farm went to town 7 mile away no problem but on the way hone after about 2 mile it stopped revving over 1000 rpm and started chugging so limped it to a lay by and turned it off ,now wont start i have but ÂŁ30 diesel in it just in case it was a faulty gauge but its said half a tank, ive checked fuel filter its clean inside (looks new) so re filled and refitted it i have hand primed the system but still wont start.
i have read on here slight air in system could cause the starting issue but have noticed when i prime fuel filter plunger goes hard and as soon as i try and start it its gone soft again is this normal as im thinking ive disturbed a fuel line under body when i was jet washing years of muck from under neath
there are no warning lights on on the dash and my obd reader will not connect to the vehicle so guessing its only fuel related
thanks in advance for any help info

The bulb should go soft once the engine is running. You are right that air getting in is a known problem, the other thing to do is check the microfilter, if you search for microfilter on here it may point you in the right direction.

i belive its the YD25 engine not sure on the DDTI bit
tryed a search on site for micro filter and cant find its location i have noticed a small filter on top of the tank
if water in the system thought the filter should catch it and after re fitting with fresh fuel would have thought it would have briefly started even to just run on whats in filter
baffling me as i did 9 mile after the jet was before it lost power

No micro filter then.
A few older D22's have suffered with rotted metal fuel pipes were it exits the tank, if yours was covered in crud cleaning it off may have let air into a porous pipe?
When I change a fuel filter I always try to purge the air from the very last connection on the fuel pump, loosen this off and work the primer pump until bubble free fuel comes from the loose joint, then tighten up and start the engine.
These engine do not tolerate any air whatsoever in the system!

right just having a quick look at sorting the truck as not had the time or weather really (i only have basic diy mechanical skills) and my motto is if its broke you can't brake it so have a go
i have taken feed pipe to filter of to try and narrow down the search and found on cranking it over there is no fuel coming out of the feed pipe so im thinking its from tank to filter am i right or would it not feed fuel on cranking over next job to inspect pipes on tank and to fuel filter

""WONT START part2""

right
i have been outside today trying to get the truck to start and still no joy ,i have now replaced fuel filter and cracked the injectors and fuel is getting through to them as i could not find any faults on any pipes.
so im still scratching my head as to why it wont fire up turns over fine any ideas where i should try next

easy way to eliminate the pipework from the tank is use a small can with diesel and pipes straight to the filter.

With a diesel its pretty straight forward you have fuel you have compression you have air is all you need however on modern diesels there are a couple of other little gizmos to look at, not 100% sure on the D22 but the older nissans had a solenoid on the fuel pump that cut the fuel when you shut down if this is faulty it wont start, if the immobiliser is set to trigger or disable the same solenoid same result, it used to be the go to option to immobilise diesels a few years back, if you have electronic activated injectors then they can also disable the relay for that or if its faulty then thats another thing to look at.

Am really not too familier with the D22 but if they have a MAF in the air intake it may be dirty, one final thing the SCV may be faulty as well but honestly am not even 100% sure D22s have them.

nobody mentioned the egr!!! It's mechanic one and maybe stick open.if you have diesel at the ingectors and 12 v at the cable goes at the pump( the one that shut down the engine- pump) then think it's another problem.as you mentioned before you stop the car ,only revvs at 1000 rpm before totaly stop.check the egr and the plugs at the fuel pump( maybe have water or those are rusty)

This is the correct diagram.

I had this on my 22, its coughed and spluttered and ran for a little while then decided it would turn over and not fire up, had RAC out and hey confirmed it was the fuel pump, cracking the injectors showed fuel from pump but not enough to run, had to replace pump ÂŁ1400 I think or something like that from Nissan I got one rebuilt from these guys https://www.pfjones.co.uk/nissan-na...k/nissan-navara-d22-2.5-td-reconditioned-bosch-diesel-fuel-pump-0470504033.html pain to remove the old one but new one fitted and so far she is going strong

i too drove my truck home from work one night, stopped engine, popped in doors for about 10mins came back out it fired up as normal, i pulled away and it cut out as i was pulling away from home just just cranked over after that with no intention of starting, and that was the fuel pump had died, been told can happen just like that and its around ÂŁ1400,
had mine towed to a local garage they had my pump rebuilt by a specialist company with the labour for them and rebuild of the pump and for the garage removal and fitting of the pump and also and a mobile diagnostic to come out and confirm it was the pump as nothing code reader wise seems to read a flippin D22 ecu ended up costing me ÂŁ1200 in the end

Yeah I had two mobile mechanics look at mine, one from RAC couldn't get his OBD checker to connect but the other guy was brilliant connected straight away and said it was the pump, got onto Nissan and found out how much it was so looked around and found the other guys, they sent down new pump and after a good bit of fiddling managed to get the old one off and new one fitted, chatting to the second mechanic and he said that pumps go with no warning at all which is a nightmare
