Hello, coming home from work today i noticed i'd picked up a slight clicking sound coming from the front of the car every now and again when i turn the steering wheel, doesn't happen all the time and it happens in both directions, its like a click not a knock. Took it to my local garage and they spent around 20 min with it on the ramps and came back to me saying they cant find anything worn etc i'd need to bring it in and have them strip it back to locate the noise.
When i got it home i decided to have a look myself, i looked under neath and nothing looks out of place, all boots etc fine everything seems tight so i took the drivers wheel off to get a closer look and the noise stopped. Only thing ive had done recently is new monroe shocks so i cant see that making any noises relating to the steering. Anyone got any ideas? before i have to take it in and get fleeced with ridiculous labour charges.
Any help would be great guys

Hi Phill77,

will probably be the little plastic steering lock stops worn through, if you do a search on here for steering lock stops you should find answers.

Nah replaced those last month and that was something that only happened on full lock, this is happening if i turn the steering wheel both ways repeatedly in fast succession and it happens even if the cars stationary, i'd originally counted the shocks out but i'm about to have another look underneath and see if the top nuts have been torqued correctly or maybe it isn't seated correctly.

Could be dry front prop joints.
But, if it is a CV joint as Keith has suggested, your best bet (unless you use 4x4 a lot) is to fit a set of free wheel hubs.
These when in free mode will stop the notoriously weak front prop and CV joints from rotating.
Removing this friction and drag will mean they will actually pay for themselves in time, increased MPG's and savings on front drive train servicing, also the truck will drive so much nicer!
