Hi all,

I recently had the engine out to replace the big ends and mains bearings and put it back together being meticulous and spun the engine over without plugs to gain oil pressure. Put all the plugs fired it up and hey presto perfect ticking over nicely and starting perfectly, at this point the diff was still off so I turned it off put the diff on fired it up still all fine so i thought take it for a spin and got no further that 300 metres before it starts being extremely rattly!!! so i took it round to the garage again and check timing and the bottom chain had jumped so all apart and bought a whole new chain kit for ÂŁ300 odd and thought perhaps a dodgy tensioner......... guess what!! it wasnt got it all back together but made it 6 miles this time!

I am lost..very lost

Has anyone else come across this? I am thinking I need a new oilpump next perhaps?

any help would be great

Hi mate :)
Not meaning to take the pi$$ at all but how much instant gasket did you put on the oil pick-up 'O' ring seal :?:
I ask this as too much could have squeezed out and restricted/blocked the oil flow :pale:
I would imagine it would only take a small amount to get sucked through the pump and block the hydraulic tensioner to the chain :(
Just a few thoughts on possible causes

I agree with Woz, well worth checking, I know of a D22 had exactly this problem but without the chain jumping, it was just very noisy.
It was also an intemittant fault, the sealant had developed a flap that closed the oilway now and again.

Thanks for the reply guys but been out there all day stripped it down again and its the crankshaft pulley......the key has snapped so the pully has been sliding round the crank not the chain jumping. Lucky i still have all valves intacted!!

Glad your sorted, you were very lucky that there was no valve damage
