Found and fixed the particular problem as described bellow which Nissan would want to replace all three switches
Wait Detection Switch grey,ATP Switch black and 4wd LO Switch grey with green paint + Labour:
Symptoms:
4WD occasionly coming on and pictograph disapears
or
pictograph front wheels keep flashing
or Both..
Fix:
In my case the culprit was the Wait Detection switch it detects if the tranfer gear is in 4wd if 4wd is selected and it doesnt engage correctly because you havnt moved the vehicle it will flash this is functioning correctly most of the time it will engage immediately and wont flash, when you disengage 4wd but it hasnt disengaged compleatly it will flash untill it does disengage sometimes you have to drive a short way or even reverse a little to compleate the function...
Location on its own not the pair side by side on the rear of the transfer box you can access it without even jacking up the vehicle lay down on the passenger side and you can reach it with a 21mm socket and wrench
remove it you wont lose any oil then check with a meter for condinuity when plunger is depressed bearing in mind that it is never fully pressed in when in service looking at the marks on it I would guess nearly halfway in at the most, when checking mine there was condinuity between the terminals but there was a point that was intermitant when pressing it slowly down to half way always at the same place so worked the switch fully down and up for a few mins untill the intermitant spot was gone replaced it back into the tranfer box with a little sealent and tested it for about an hour in and out or 4wd off road and it is working fine.
If your switch has condinuity all the time or none at all you need to replace the unit with a new one.
Also visualy check the wiring loom to the switch especially where the cable is clipped to the transfer box make sure there is no breaks or chaffing.
Important:Check to see if the oil in the transfer box is contaminated with water easiest way to be sure is just to:-
You MUST Change the oil in the Transfer box....
Cost: 30 mins of my time.. and some atf fluid
There are some diagnostics that you can do Manual Transmission:
1. Warm up engine and turn off.
2. Turn ignition switch “ON” and “OFF” at least twice, and then turn ignition switch “OFF”.
3. Make sure your in neutral.
4. Turn 4WD shift switch to “2WD” position.
5. Turn ignition switch “ON”. (Do not start engine.)
6. 4WD warning lamp ON.
7. Move gear lever to any position other than neutral.
8. Turn 4WD shift switch to “2WD”, “4H” and “2WD” in order.
9. Move gear lever to neutral position.
10. Turn 4WD shift switch to “4H”, “2WD” and “4H” in order.
11. Move gear lever to any position other than neutral.
12. Turn 4WD shift switch to “2WD” position.
13. Move gear lever to neutral position.
14. Read the flickering of 4WD warning lamp it will flash in a sequence if a fault is present when in this diagnostic mode you will get two flashes at 0.5 seconds between them what you are looking for is the pattern after that maybe four flashes with 1.0 secs between or six flashes with 0.5 secs between flashes.. match that up to the chart bellow and you have a lead to the fault, the one described above would be for faults 2 and 3,if it flashes with a 2.5 second interval constantly between flashes then no fault is found.
Automatic Transmission:
1. Warm up engine.
2. Turn ignition switch “ON” and “OFF” at least twice, and then turn ignition switch “OFF”.
3. Move gear selector lever to “P” position.

9. Move gear selector lever to “P” position.
10. Turn 4WD shift switch to “4H”, “2WD” and “4H” in order.
11. Move gear selector lever to “N” position.
12. Turn 4WD shift switch to “2WD” position.
