The ECU update to cure this problem came available just before lunch yesterday. By coincidence, I visited my dealer at lunchtime yesterday. They did the update, supposedly the first truck in Europe,if not the world to get it aftermarket. Today at noon, 22 hours later, I get limp mode for the first time in two and a half months.

Good job Nissan! :clappy:
I don`t think yours was the first to done.
Yeah, realised that after talking to mechanic again. As usual, Irish garages were last to get it. Mine was the first in the country to get it.

Nissan reckon that limp mode was caused by something else, because the ECU update has cured all the others. I have to admit, they could be quite right, because the truck felt different to when it used to go into limp mode before. It was actually driveable, just under-powered. I first noticed it accelerating from 100kph to 120kph uphill on a motorway, though the truck felt a little sluggish, like it was into a head wind. Only noticed when I got off the motorway that it was in limp mode. Could be just one of those isolated incidents. Hasn't happened since. Nissan told my dealer to get me to drive straight to nearest Nissan dealer next time it happens to read the codes to confirm if it's the same as before or different.

Time will tell. Hasn't happened since.

Hi Tadhg.
Do you know if I can get this update free from Nissan Ireland??
I have a 2006 out of warranty Pathfinder in Galway with a running problem and I would like to eliminate this from the equation.

Hi Minoe.

This problem is only with the 2010 facelift Navara/Pathfinder which was only released in Ireland at the end of last year, so the update isn't compatible with your Pathfinder.

What trouble are you having? Have a look around the forum here, you may find the solution. If not, I'd recommend going to Motorpark Athlone. Their Nissan specialist, Keith, is top class. As far as I know, Motorpark in Galway aren't Nissan service approved, but even if they are, I still recommend Athlone because I've found them brilliant over the last four years I've been dealing with them.

Let me know how you get on.

Tim

Hi Tim
I am having trouble with what looks like vacuum issues. Turbo is boosting but not enough.
Its intermittent and not giving codes. Thought I had it sorted but its back again.
Very out of love with the truck... I feel trade in coming on..
See here.

Well,

It sounds like you've put a bit of time into it. I'm afraid it's beyond my realm of knowledge.

As I said, if you are going to take it to a dealer for a look, go to Motorpark Athlone. I'd advise ringing first to make sure Keith is available on the day you plan to go. He really is a top class technician. Very capable and more importantly, willing to put in the effort. I'll be surprised if he can't sort it for you.

To close off this topic:
For anyone wondering/worried about this, I haven't had limp mode since 17th January. That one was the day after I got the ECU update. I don't know what caused that one, but it hasn't happened since. I have driven around 15,000 miles (25,000km) since then without a problem, so the update seems to have cured the problem.

Just phoned Nissan - truck went into limp home mode - AGAIN!!

Looking back the truck went into LHM Oct 2011, Jan 2012 and May 2012. The garage says it will apply the ECU update, so I hope this does shut the LHM for me down.

Thanks again for the support.

Check the engine bay for rust/corrosion on the earth/ground wires. There are three or four earth points in the engine bay. Check them all. This has been known to cause limp mode problems.

Also, pop into the "Introduce yourself" section, when you get a chance, to ...introduce yourself. :D

this could be a issue with the suction control valve which is part of the fuel pump, this is a common issue on the older navs, not heard of this issue on the 190ps models yet.....

Hello thainks for help . The dealer nissan say the problem is in fuel pump and when it comes in Greece and change it all ok. I hope the problem stoped because i can't drive my Nav because when i have 3 gear and rpm up to 3.000 engine has no power and the gas pedal is dead . I bay the diagnostic scaner and write P1273 . I erase the code when the car working start to run but again no power and fault code is P1273 . I have the problem one month now .

My car went into Nissan this week for a service and the ECU patch applying. Car came back sounding very quiet and driving smoothly. Drove 180 miles back home and, you guessed it, it is back in limp home mode again. No warning lights, just a lack of power. Cruises very nicely about 75mph on cruise control, but as soon as the truck hits a hill it looses speed and max's out at about 65mph. Once back on the flat thr truck works back to 75mph on cruise.

Very frustrating and it is going back in to the garage.

hello the dealer change the fuel pump in my nav and now all ok . i drive it 1500 km and nothing about limp mode . it works very wel. i hope my problem is onlu this .

Mine limped once, the day after the ECU update, but has been fine since. Maybe it's the same on yours. (hopefully)
Does anybody know what the ECU update is and what it is for, what it does, and of course why? I was told mine had an ECU update done by the Nissan Tech who came out to look at mine - but no further info?

AFAIK, the ECU update I'm talking about was only for the 190 engine. The earlier 190s had a problem that caused them to limp randomly (which is why I started this thread). I was never told what the problem was, or what the update changed to fix it, but it worked.

I rang my stealer after posting but tech who worked on my motor wasn't in, but service manager seemed to think they DIDN'T do any ECU update as it was already up-to-date
Mine 07 'facelift' so unsure if a 168 or 171 bhp :?:
