Nothing exciting but i have just got my windows tinted, the first step of many for modding my nav. Its not to everyones taste but i have done it for two reasons, firstly i like the look of black larger cars such as the nav and rangrover ect with the blacked out look, i personally think it looks smart, on the other hand when you see a little 1.2litre corsa with hia windows done i think it looks sh#t, all depends on which car and also colour i supose.

The second and most important reason is that i will be carrying tools inside the cab until i can get a cheap cover for the back so it is better security. Ive totally blacked out the rear and rear side so you cannot see in and the drivers and passenger i have gone lighter but it is still dark as i do not like the dark back very light front look. It is illegal but my m3 had this on and it never bothered the police and in the worst situation i would only have to take off the front two windows.

THE MAIN REASON FOR POSTING is that as some of you know i have just bought the nav (thursday 26th nov) and the mot was due this tuesday so i put it in for one and it sailed straight threw without even any notes to advise about problems. I was well pleased as i did exspect it to fail as i had just bought it and i have nothing but bad luck.

Great news on the MOT mate :thumbright:

I nearly got my front windows tinted the other day, but the guy told me they were already on the legal limit, he showed me some examples which i liked, but then said, if you get a tug, they'll ask you to remove them. So for now i've left them be, are yours as dark as the rears?

From a distance they look as dark as the rear but if you got closer you can see inside, so they are lighter but only by one grade. It isnt an mot failure or anything its the police making up their own law because they dont like the fact that they cannot see who is inside but b#llocks to them  I have gone for limo black on the back and two back sides and gone down one grade for the front two which is called dark smoke, if you consider that it cost me only ÂŁ100 all round including tint and labour then if i ever get pulled then at the most it will cost me ÂŁ25 to re-do it so its a risk worth taking for me. Their is nothing worse than seeing a car with jet black tints all round then clear / slight tints on the front but thats my opinion. Also as my fronts are slightly lighter then the police do not seem to bothered as they can see that an attempt has been made to lighten up the fronts and most of the police have better things to do anyway, i will post a picure of the windows soon so you can see but GO FOR THE TINTS AND RISK IT, it looks good and like i say the most it will cost you to change them would be around ÂŁ25 and you could have been driving it 2 years.

Why only the fronts?????????are you happy with the standard rear glass then. Its not dark enough for me

Mate get your **** over here and do mine, I got quoted 250euro to do the 4 sides, dark on rears and lighter on fronts, leaving the rear screen as is....
At the price of yours it cheaper to fly you over and do mine than paying locally.... :?

Tbh mate, i never gave it much thought, i just figured i'd do the fronts to match the back?

I see what you mean, but the rears are fairly dark as standard

I can beat carts' quote, ÂŁ300 for for the four sides and the back window  i hastily left the shop with my ÂŁ300 in tow and decided to splash out on the visor instead :D I was considering doing it meself but i reckon it would look ***** and i would forever be removing air bubbles :(

Laim at least you were going to get 5 windows and one very large one for that, mine was only the 4 doors

I can window tint and have done many over the years but i found someone who is the boll#cks so have been using him for the last 3 years.

from the time i passed over my nav to the time i picked up the nav was 2 hours total and he tinted all side windows and rear and like i say he supplied and fitted the film for ÂŁ100 and when i say a proffesional job, then it doesnt even come close. As someone who used to do the tints i cant beleive how he does it either and thats after going to him for years.

although it sounds like a good price (and it is) can you imagine if he manages 4 cars a day at ÂŁ100 each, the car owner is more than happy and he is making ÂŁ2000 a week, sweet

Hey mother.............does he come to your home or do you take to him.........i am thinking of just getting my rear passenger windows done.....so any details would be appreciated.....i can always pop over to bedford...

I dont know off hand, he does such a good job that he preferes to do it in his own work shop so that dust and hairs ect do not get onto the glass. He is based in stevenage.

It is a small workshop which is why he preferes the car to be dropped off, what i usually do is get the missus to follow me and then i go back home with her for a few hours or pop into the town centre and he rings me on my mobile when its ready.

If you are intrested then pm me and i will give you his number. its good advertisement for him but i dont think he would appreciate me giving out his number all over the net

its his own proffesional company and you can either put it threw the books or ask him to do it cash as i do

Professional company and given the choice to do it through the books or cash...Well technically it is his problem what he does with the cash, but be careful what you say regarding the VAT and giving out his name....HMRC is scanning online for such events and admissions as part of their research....Some clever bloke helped design and put in those systems

Also a professional who installs beyond the legal limit??? Might do a very good job, but true professional companies won't do that on road cars....And no the police don't make up their own rules, they are very clearly unambiguously defined. Of course not all police carry the measuring equipment, so I guess that is where your subjective comment comes from. And yes in that case it is your word against theirs. And MOT doesn't have to test for it, so it won't fail...That's joined up Government for you...

Not being unfriendly here  merely restoring some facts...Oh and don't forget when you do get pulled on the front tints they will have to be removed there and then if less than 30% light...Legal limit has set the fine maximum to ÂŁ2k for which you will get means tested. They must let 75% of the light through.

Enjoy your black outs....

Some one has to much time on his hands, and as i said i will not give out his name or his number online. As for being professional he doesnt offer a on or off books but he his very helpfull and you can ask him if he is happy to do it off the books. And as for being unfriendly why did you even bother to respond to the thread, i just pointed out that i added this mod and i also pointed out that it was not legall and all the other points that you did but you still came and added your reply, i know its a forum but what was the point in that. As for those who do want extra info feel free to pm me as i am more than happy to help and give you some contact info.

I bet you are a copper or one of those fake ones  any way no hard feelings mate but didnt see the point in that rant personally

message for mother trucker, i have read your posts above and your posts on the other thread about why people dont hang around, well as you said this is a forum and for what its worth i think you yourself are unfreindly, or you just accidently know how to rub people up the wrong way with the way you express yourself and the things you write.
It seams that if you dont get a good response to your posts or some one disagrees with what you say or adds there take on something which dosnt sit well with you, you come out all guns blazing!

bit strong mate but point taken, and i am happy to help people out whenever possable so i wouldnt class myself as unfriendly but again thats upto you mate. respect your comments though. I didnt realise that just saying i had added a mod would rub someone up the wrong way and if it did i appologise but god knows why

just to comment like you said why people dont hang around, it does seem like alot of you have been a member a while and stick together and maybe this comes across to newbies and they leave, it comes across like that to me and i am happy to leave if you do not wish for me to stay around but i have had help and advice from this forum and from some great guys
