Hi,

Sorry to barge on here unannounched but I'm having a problem with my 2006 D40 Navara Aventura.

After I have left the vehicle standing for more than a couple of hours and then jump in a hope to drive away the steering wheel does turn without considerable force in either direction. As I continue to rock the steering wheel it start to become slightly freer but I only gain full control of steering back once I've driven 10-15 meters. After that it's all good - no problems at all whilst driving.

Feels like the steering pump to me, almost as though there was no fluid in it (it feels exactly the same as when I have replaced my BMW 330Ci pump and I was rocking the steering wheel to get the PS fluid into the new unit). I don't know anything about Navara's but surely it's a gravity system - i.e. reserviour is above the pump so fluid wouldn't drain away from the pump when not in use? Sorry if I sound a bit daft.

Anyway - any advice/ideas greatly appreciated :)

All the best

Darren

Either the PAS pump isnt pumping right or it could accually be the steering rack (PAS side of things on it)

Thanks guys,

I'll check for a leak first. It's a bit hard to tell on my driveway as it's already been splattered by last fluid from my BMW LOL I like the airlock idea - seems quite feasible given the symptoms.

I really hope it's not a duff pump. My wife's went in the Mini last year, mine went in the BMW this year and now's there's the Navara. They do say things come in threes though! :-(

In respect to a potential rack problem do you have anymore detailed thoughts on this? No worries if not.

Thanks

Darren
