Evening all, I have a 57 plate aventura. It suffered a loss of power and started to smoke. would rev slowly all the way up to 3000 revs, press the throttle hard and between 1500 and 2500 revs it will knock like a diesel fault whilst smoking heavily , tank was quater full so I filled it up. It was serviced in september. so i dont think its a filter problem.Drove home in low range. Had a friend out with a diagnostic. No management light no fault codes. Now it won't start without turning it over and over, to the point that it hydraulics on the fuel being injected. Can anyone give me any suggestions?? I was taught to be cautious so I don't want to take it to a garage if I can do my own repair. I look forward to your comments. thanks,Al

I disconnected the battery last night, re connected it this morning. It started fine ran for approx 30 seconds and stopped, still no engine management light. The light also goes out on cranking. Could this be a flywheel sensor fault ??

Hello Al

I hear the sound of tumbleweed rolling down the road........

you'll get a better response if you visit the 'Introduce yourself' section to tell us more about your truck and yourself. You'll geta warm welcome and more folk will be willing to help.

Although you have had the service carried out recently, to get to the bottom of this you are going to follow the tried and tested routine we have established to solve engine running issues.

The first is change the fuel filter again. You may have picked up some contaminated fuel.

Check the condition of your air filter.

You have done a hard ECU reset by leaving the battery off overnight so that's one less thing to do for now.

Clean the MAF, viewtopic.php?f=47&t=12607

Blank off your EGR valve, viewtopic.php?f=47&t=12607
You just need to blank the end nearest the EGR valve itself, there's no need to remove the pipe completely like I did.

Good luck, keep us posted and don't forget the intro :thumbleft:
