174bhp was for th euro3 engine - between 2005 and 2007. Then euro4 was 171bhp. All down to emissions. Euro3 were better on mpg as are the latest euro5 engines.
Clutch problem was down to the use of 'dual mass flywheel, which was a common fault on other makes as well as Nissan. My 2006 (euro3) had dual mass. Changed after 70,000 miles for solid flywheel. Not sure what the change over date was/is when solid flywheel was fitted as standard.

 

if you can wait,and save some more funds i'd go for the 190, that's what i'd do if were going for another truck :thumbleft:

Navara D40 Euro 3 from 2005 to sept 2006: 174 BHP Manual and auto

Euro 4 sept 06 until sept 2010: 171 BHP manual and 169 BHP auto, auto lost a little BHP because of DPF addition

Sept 2010 Euro 4 190 engine introduced, with as you might have guessed 190 BHP Manual and auto

Current euro 5 engine 190 BHP

Outlaw V6 is the most powerful with 231 BHP

I looked at waiting and getting a 190 over a 171/174 predominantly down to fuel economy and running cost, but he difference in fuel cost vs purchase price didn't make it worth while so I bought an Aventura 58 plate for £13K with 36K miles on it where as best I could have done 190 wise was an Acenta (base model) for around £15K and that was with 40-50K miles. There is enough power and grunt in mine (which based on LT is a 171 - except all my paperwork says 174 so I guess the jury may still be out).

Only comment I would make on colour is that I stayed away from rarer colours, went with Silver in the end, but would have had black had there been one. Just makes it easier to pick up bits from eBay that are the right colour :wink:

My understanding is the clutch cutover was with the so-called 08 facelift model - so anything from 2008 onwards (but that may not be 100% accurate)

 

Cheers for the info guys. Starting to agree with your logic Bearpark as costs of the 190bhp are still quite pricey and would take a while to recoup the costs. I do like the new interior mind but again it comes at a price. Any comments on the change in clutch on an 08 as mentioned in reply above guys. What should i be wary off when purchasing. Any no nos on these, other than injection problems

 

Bought my 56 plate new and have kept hold of it as I wouldn't want any other truck.
Never used to keep anything longer than 3 years, but my nav changed all that.
Will be six years old in September and no plans to change.

Had the same thoughts on cost vs consumption, you have to drive it quite some time to make up for the price difference, and by then you won't care anymore if it drinks a little bit more. You're lucky over there that you have the options, over here i couldn't buy one second hand because the are either a: non-existant or b: 50000km/year construction site wrecks.

Btw, £215/year roadtax sounds nice. We get ripped of here because apparently someone thinks i'm killing polar bears with my truck, so i pay 250€ normal road tax and another 230€ for the CO2-output above 120g/km. And that all just because they can classify it like they want. Paperwork says it's a lorry, would cost half in taxes (even less if load capacity would be below 1to, then it would be 56€/year), but because the cab is longer than the bed (double cab) the tax office says "nope, this one is clearly used to transport people, so it will be taxed as a usual car". Of course insurance says "nope, states here in the papers it is a lorry, so it will be insured as one", which of course is about three times as expensive as insuring it as a car. so i'm gettin screwed from every direction moneywise. If i wouldn't love my truck it would be a nightmare...
but i guess there just aren't enough pickup trucks here in germany for any official place to bother clarifying all the rules
