Yeah agreed, to be fair our Vauxhall Corsa also required foot on clutch to start (albeit using a key) - seems to be getting common. Of course the manufacturers don't care that engine will wear out as it means more car sales (or maybe that is me being too cynical?)
News for all !! the MANUAL also starts with just your foot on the BRAKE as long as its in neutral,the clutch does not need to be depressed at all. Oh and on a cold day do not worry about a delay as the glow plugs are automatically timed and it wont start before they have had full cycle.

Is the reasoning behind the orange LED anything to do with the stop start technology that is in the manual version ,somebody that actually uses it may be able to enlighten us. This would seem logical as even though not used in Euro 5 navs the same button is used in models that did have it. Maybe it is confirm to the driver that they are ready to go.
