Here's a very strange one.

I have a 2010 D40 Kingcab.

This only happens in low range 4th gear. It happens on the flat, up hill, downhill, under load and coasting. Every other gear is OK, 2WD, 4WD, high and low range, this just happens in 4 low.

While in 4 low, the motor surges. It's like, spurt, normal, spurt spurt, normal, drops away into turbo lag, normal, spurt, drops away and almost cuts out, comes back, spurts, normal etc etc etc. I asked some mechanic mates while away on a trip and they had no idea. I can only think it's something like the computer not knowing what to do when the motor is matched to that gear.

I have no idea at all. Any help much appreciated.

Welcome Siringo,

It's nice to see members from the colonies visiting us, :sunny:

A couple of things come to mind,

Firstly is your Navara still covered by Nissans warranty? If so get it back to the dealer to fix.

Your symptoms make me think it is some kind of transmission linked glitch. Is it possibly one of the 3 transfer box or neutral position switches passing the ECU dodgy signals. Is your Navara a ,annual or automatic transmission?

Yep, it's a manual.
It is still under warranty, but to be honest, I don't think Nissan would know what the problem was, so I'm hoping I can come across someone who's had the problem and can tell me what it is, then I can go to Nissan and tell them.

It only happens in 4th gear low range, all other gears are OK.

I've no personal knowledge but given that this only happens in 4th leads me to believe it could be a Neutral Position Switch (NPS) issue.

Have a look at this post and try a search on the subject. viewtopic.php?f=14&t=29936&hilit=nps

I've just had a look at the replies to your post in Navara-Asia, and notice your truck is a This built model. Are there any extra sensors/switches fitted to the gearbox?

PS, pop into the 'Introduce yourself' section and do the honourable thing, you'll get a warm welcome :awesomework

Have you tried holding the gearstick firmly in the 4 position? If this cures the problem then it would be the nps as lookshyward says.

No I haven't, I'll give it a try.

So do you reckon if that fixes it, it may have something to do with some sensor somewhere??

I hope this is OK with the admins here???
I've added an update to a thread I have running at navara.asia on the same topic. I've added a few graphs out of the Torque Android app,

I'm just too lazy to post the pics again.

This problem only seems to affect Thai built King Cab D40's, the Spanish one's don't seem to suffer the problem. It happens only in low range 4th gear, every other gear is fine.

Thanks for any help.
