Well, we had the classic receipe.... bit of rain the other night, followed by a sharp frost which froze the roads to glass then it thawed a bit in the morning.. :(

I left the house at 7:15, the temp guage said 1degC... Got to the bottom of the hill, heading for the main road and hit black ice. Went straight ahead when I should have gone sharp left - Me and the Navara went over a dry stone wall and into a field 2ft below the level of the road :(

Amazingly, the air bags didn't go off, the motor is rather sorry but still straight - buckled an alloy, not a mark underneath, front bumper assembly is shot as is the crossomember, couple of shocks burst. Not a mark underneath on the chassis or the exhaust, both side steps are bent - So we must have flown over the wall :D

Fun bit - Had an impromptu chance to go offroading in a field while I mooched off to find the gate to get out :D :D :(

Painful bit - More than ÂŁ4k worth of damage.... Nothing that can't be fixed though... Quite surprised that the Navara took it all quite well (relatively)

Goodness, me mate, if you wanted to off road all you had to do was ask so we can organise a local day ;)

Really sorry to hear about this mate :(

Harvey,
It is my motor, my insurance.

Thing is it could have been a lot worse - Fortunately I was on my own and nobody else was involved. I was very surprised how lightly the Navara was damaged considering it flew over a collapsed **** (using the **** as the take off ramp). :D

Its a bit ironic that its the first "new" car I've bought in almost 10 years and it didn't survive the year... :(

The best New Year thrash I ever attended was in a village hall in the Highlands - It started at 2am and ended at 7am when we all then went first footing..

ha ha :D

Sadly, I did see it coming from about 30yds - Applied the brakes and the ABS came on which didn't slow me at all. Kept the foot planted on the brake pedal in a vain hope that I'd stop, tried to steer but no chance - Gracefully glided on... :( and UP!

ABS on ice - no use but then I guess thats obvious. I was surprised at the total lack of steering though.

Didn't need 4WD to get out of the icy field as it was grass - fortunately no coos in residence at the time!
