On my first test I removed the main belt and the noise stopped, indicating it was one of the ancillaries
I changed the idler, alternator and water pump but it still squeals
I repeated the test removing the main belt this time it still squealed
I then removed the power steering belt and it still squeals that's with both belts off.
If anyone can help I would much appreciate it.

Thanks Andy.

Thanks for your reply
When I say accelerate I mean rev the engine sitting still must be the engine
I have recently changed the head which meant taking off the timing chain
Could I of assembled it wrong maybe.
It fine when idling only squeals when I rev the engine.

^ this. Also the viscous fan What about the viscous fan. Maybe try removing that and see if the noise goes?

I would think any noises associated with the timing chain would be more like a rattle or grinding noise or combo of both. last place i'd be looking.

I don't have the viscous fan fitted at the moment just the pulley. Still making the noise.

A process of elimination...

You have eliminated the belts, water pump etc.
Disconnect a boost hose ( possibly at the junction on the cam cover) to eliminate a boost leak.
If no change, probably you need to strip it down again.

I' no longer do things to car engines, but with a new problem on any bit of kit, I always look first to "what has changed recently", as there are not many coincidences.

You said "I have recently changed the head which meant taking off the timing chain". I agree with LM, and my money is on a re-assembly problem - the shriek could be a tensioner issue.

True enough, and good point.
The Occam's Razor question then may be, "what got stripped off to change the head, but does not come into play with the various belts/ancillaries removed?"

I disconnected the hose on the cam cover still squealing
I removed the timer cover all looks perfect to me no scratches or swaff
Nice and clean. Chain is held tight under tension.
Could the crankshaft pulley be broken seems solid to me. May look a bit wobbly when engine is running only slightly.

Wish I could help...
All that the sound of the shriek reminds me of is either a bush bearing (like on some electric motors) that has failed, or something, maybe rubber or plastic parts or with lots of fins, that is deflecting with increasing speed and rubbing on something. I guess you have to get someone to rev for you, while you try to (carefully) work out more accurately where the sound is coming from....
