Hi Guys,

Wondering if you clever folk could help me.
What is the switch by my left knee (right hand drive D40).
It doesn't seem to do anything until the engine is running, and then the revs go up a bit.
I was just wondering if it is some sort of 'choke'? Do you use it when it is cold, when the engine is running? Is there a safe and unsafe way to use it?

How about that for a complete newbie question?

Thanks in advance

Chris

Could be the fast idle switch, for cold starting.
Yup, it's a fast idle switch to help warm the engine up when stationary. I find it ideal for using when jump starting another vehicle.

No they removed it in the 2010 facelift
Its a engine heater that all it does is increase the revs when in neutral it didnt really heat it any quicker though but as said is useful for charging dead batteries on jump leads

Thanks guys.
So you wouldn't drive around with it on?
You shouldn't be able to.
If you can, and use it as say a cruise control, and it works, then your NPS switch is knac**ered.
When switched to high revs, the engine should knock back to idle as soon as any gear is selected.
