The lock is probably gundged up and dry from lack of use. Attack it with some WD40 to help to gently loosen it off.

 

Add it to my growing list of things to do tommorow hahah

 

Has it ever locked with the key?
Just wonering if you have the right key as the mechanism is very simple so not sure if it can get so gunge up that it don't work at all
Oh and it's not connected to the central locking so that angle is a dead end street

 

mine is as is the top box

 

Will double check tommorow but pretty sure i could never get the key to work!

 

As said no central locking as standard, unless someone's added it. does the key even turn ? if not my thinking its wrong key.


from memory 8 screws on tailgate to gain access to all. then you can open it to allow working easier and remove the lock barrel if need be.

 

+1 the hardest part of removing the lock is the 8 screws that hold the cover on
Once in its pretty self explanatory

 

i stand corrected the top box does indeed lock but not the tailgate just the top box lid overlaps and keeps it closed so next mod is some type of internal release perhaps with a landrover door handle on the inside and disconnect the exterior handle from the rods

 

SO took it all apart at work and the tab that does the actaul locking actio0n had fallen off and was just rattling around in the bottom the tail gate hahah. All fixed now Locks with the key
