Re: Take a tip .CHECK YOUR CHASSIS..........................

I just checked mine. At first it seemed really solid. Inspecting where the crack is pictured there is a hole on the underside of the rail on both sides!
Mine is on a 56 plate, never carried much and it has never been near the sea.

As with the title of the post, check yours!

Has anyone been in contact with Nissan GB about this problem ?

Re: Take a tip .CHECK YOUR CHASSIS..........................

I think I'll be heading down this road myself sooner rather than later.

I have a small crack appearing on the passengers side rear outside rail between the wheel and the front tub mount, and possibly along the bottom of the rail in the same area (that I've seen so far) that will require attention first.

Tub off job with some cutting, plating and welding required before a full rear chassis clean and treatment.

Hoping to start next week, I haven't sold my project D40 yet so have decided not to push the sale and put in on the road while I do the work on my driver.

Re: Take a tip .CHECK YOUR CHASSIS..........................

Do we know the model year of the latest navara truck that's been reported with chassis problems ? Seen a lot of 2005 2006 years with the problem, just wondered if any 07 onwards had been reported , Or is it just a matter of time due to age that these go down ?

Yes the 07's are showing, it does seem to be as the model ages so do the list of victims. At least as a buyer you'll get a good chance to inspect potential purchases and deal with them as you find them.

This is the main thread where the information has been collated; viewtopic.php?f=7&t=108226

Re: Take a tip .CHECK YOUR CHASSIS..........................

do you know where the chassis's are built ? i know the trucks are mainly made in spain but i heard that the chassis themselves were assembled in Thailand and went underwater during the tsunami 2004 and just washed off before production, which would then effect the early D40 models 05 - 06, how true this is i don't know you'd probably know more than me.

Not entirely unexpected as I'm noticed a faint line a while back, hoping it's not too bad but like everything I won't know till I take the tub off.

I'm in Norwich for a few days so hopefully make a start on it when I get back, and take a few pics as I go.

unlucky, but if anyone can make a decent job of fixing it.......

I also saw a facebook post today of a nav in a garage with a guy bouncing up and down on the back of a nav and the whole back end flexing between the tub and cab. I assume the only thing holding the truck together was the tub mounts. bad times!

would be good if the issue was only related to tsunami affected chassis's. Obviously not good for all those with affected ones, but at least limits the extent.

Nissan are aware and need to intervene, people will get seriously hurt or even worse.....

Re: Take a tip .CHECK YOUR CHASSIS..........................

I saw that post on Facebook earlier too.

Its almost unbelievable.. I currently have an 05 d40 with a lovely hole and crack but gonna attempt to plate it tomorrow.. Do i then go digging further / wait for the next crack or do i get rid of the truck.. Its a brilliant truck to drive, just sucks to own. Getting fed up of the ball aches at such a young age and low mileage respectively.

Its also quite interesting how loads of garages and mechanics are unaware and have not heard of the d22 engine issues, the d40 timing issues and all these chassis troubles which i have seen and heard of loads of recently..

Re: Take a tip .CHECK YOUR CHASSIS..........................

Once a new vehicle has been sold, Nissan obviously walks away, despite many faults and manufacturing defects being generic.

It's clearly a business they can't compete in and don't have the skills to make stuff work & last properly (reading about all the other problems with D40s on this forum).

It all makes me want to look elsewhere next time, a Mercedes Euro 6 pick-up would suit me...

If it's a safety recall, anyone can go and get their truck done FOC regardless of the ownership.

Yes - joint development, but Mercedes have previously said they will use their own engines, which has to be an improvement.

And a rusted chassis or slack timing chain doesn't seem to be falling into the category of "safety recall" does it?
