Hi guys , I'm new to this forum , how are you all doing ? My names Simon I'm from Brighton on the south coast of England live recently bought another d40 in grey and have had a few issues with it , none that are of a concern .... Until now, so before I start let me tell you I am no mechanic , far from it , I'm just pretty good with cars .
So I bought a new turbo and replaced the old one with a shiny one , all was great fitted a treat , fired it up let it idle for some time, I revved the engine and I heard what sounded like streetching ? Do I listened and came to figure out that the turbo isn't picking up oil? Is there any reason why this would do this ? I've drained the old oil out changed it fit magnatec changed the oil filter , fuel filter , and air filter , and also put a new suction control valve , so I know she's been looked after , but still , the turbo won't pick oil up to oil bearings etc? Does anyone have any ideas suggestions or solutions ? Really need to get the truck back on the road ? Thanks in advance guys

sounds like all you can do is remove pipes and turbo's to see where there might be a blockage or an issue. was all the plastic blanking plugs removed from the oil ways (stupid question i know)

Hi Simon,

Hopefully we can help but a couple of things that might help us here.

1. Age of your truck
2. Mileage

Obviously there is a blocked oilway somewhere. Bear with me while I tell you a story.

I had a problem with my truck having a stretched timing chain that caused bits of plastic chain guide to break off into the sump. Within a month of having cleaned up the sump (including a seriously contaminated oil strainer) and changing the chain(s) my turbo failed in spectacular James Bond smokescreen fashion.

I fitted a new turbo and part of doing so, the instructions told me to remove the sump and check for debris. Another thing to check was the oil feed and return pipes to ensure they were not blocked or restricted. Did you do this?

I also found fitting the turbo was not easy to fit, especially the delicate oil feed pipe. Make sure this is not bent or kinked.

I would be worried that you've damaged the new turbo already, screeching dry bearings do not bode well.

Hi, it's 07 with 108 on the clock I changed the turbo as it looked tired not as it had failed, hindsight...... If it's not broke don't fix it springs to mind !! The bottom pipe? Is that the oil feed? As the oil comes out there fine so I'm I'm guessing it would be a blocked return? I'll take it back off later and have a look thank you for help

Simon, you need to take that sump pan off. Check the oil pickup strainer.

Just a thought I've not long replaced my cylinder head on my 08 D40 and had the turbo off and as stated above the bottom pipe is the oil pickup/return pipe but you'll see that one pipe is a small bore and the other is large, is it possible you have fitted the gasket the wrong way round i.e. small hole in the gasket over the large pipe which would restrict oil flow on the return pipe?

So ....... Took the turbo back off, Took the oil feed pipe off , took the sump off nothing in sump totally clear , chain is new , the reason I got the fault was where I fitted the gasket , there was I little bit of it that covered the oil way , so got a new gasket , primed the turbo with oil new gaskets fitted it all back together , and fired her up let it run for ten minutes, no leaks or in due noises , took it for a slow run and it goes like a dream , really pleased , really happy , thank you for the time guys , your info really helped me , bloody blocked bloody oil pick up due to gasket! Fail !!! Thanks guys ����
