Vibration

As I'm new to this truck lark I'm not sure if this is just because of the Navs set up or not.

At around 85mph I get a what can only be described as a vibration through the steering wheel. It isn't massive but it is annoying. The truck is 5 years old so I'm wondering if something is a bit worn !

Any advice as always gratefully received

As soon as I bought my Pathfinder I got the 4 wheel alignment done and all wheels balanced. That's the cheapest and easiest thing to do first.

Where are you able to legally do 85mph anyway? Do you have a private track?

Wheels out of balance normally show themselves with steering wobble/vibration at 50mph. This can be driven through and everything will go smooth from 60+.

I suspect you have a dry/wearing UJ in the propshaft(s).
Thanks but being dumb I have two questions:

1) What the hell is a UJ?
2) Is it going to be expensive?
A UJ is a universal joint, they cost around ÂŁ20 each, if you're handy with the spanners you can do it yourself

Many thanks. Will get one ordered.

People are always saying I'm a spanner so I should be fine :p
Don't buy anything until you've inspected it first. There are two UJs on each propshaft so you would need to buy a pair for the front shaft and a pair for the rear propshaft.

If you have little mechanical experience and a small tool selection you'll find this a difficult job to undertake. A garage will charge you about 1 hours labour to do each propshaft.

Front wheels were balanced today as they were out. Booked into my mechanics on Thursday to check UJ and give the thing the once over.

Next week I should get the chrome door handles and LED lamps and over the weekend I will start the restore of the flakey tow bar and mountain top stuff. It will look awesome by the time i finish.

Now just got to decide if I'm going to buy that DTE box.......

just had this same issue with my 05 D40.
gradually worsening noise and vibration @60mph and above. knew tyres and alignment wasn't an issue. thanks to some great advice from the guys on here I had the front propshaft removed earlier today and this totally resolved the vibration/noise issue. parts (UJs) on order and fitting tbc for next week!

thanks to all for advice earlier this week. its great to walk into the mechanic with reliable knowledge! :clappy: :clappy: :clappy:
