Hi, my alternator is playing up, was schreeching for a while, but now the centre isn't turning at all,
outer part of the clutch pully is running fine,
I bought a used alternator from ebay, but it arrived damaged, the casing is cracked and touching the copper wire,
so after getting in touch with the seller, they sent another one, but this is cracked and bent on two sides,
time is not on my side as I can't stay off the road for much longer,
but you recommend using an alternator that is like this?

Heck no.
If it's not even in a physically stable condition it needs dumping, not selling on as a working part.
Send that **** back and get a refund.

Time might not be on your side, but you could end up with much longer time delays putting rubbish like that in your truck.

Yeah I'm a bit P'd about it TBH,
payed £70 for that, and bought a second one off them to save time,
while sending the first one back.
the first one looked like it was damaged in transit,
but this one was so well packed it must have been like it when they sent it it.
I'm not going to give them a third try.
my mechanic refused toi use the first one, he hasn't seen this one yet, but I know what he'll say.
might just save myself more time by returning it now.
I only tried to go cheap as it's close to Xmas,
might send it back and stay off the road til Jan and get a brand new one

Yeh it's proper cheeky they would try and sell that on, but that's breakers for ya.
Can your mechanic not source one for you at a decent price?

Nah he's tried, but probably best to go for the new option,
the rest on ebay look terrible.

I appreciate that it's double the price of the ebay one but it's brand new and is probably cheaper than what Nissan will quote you

It's a big risk fitting something like a used alternator, especially at £70 a time. You could easily end up in the same position 3 months later.

I recall paying around £300 a few years ago for new non-genuine one, that price from Milner is brilliant, good find. :thumbleft:

It looks like about £70 worth. Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I think you'll have to get your hand in your pocket for this one.

I've got one in the garage, front bearing needs replacing, it still looks shiny and the pulley is good. If you get near Nuneaton/Coventry you can have it.

Just looked on Euro car parts with 25% off at the moment comes out at 187.

Got a new one in the end, the used one wasn't worth the risk,
all good now though, and barely took an hour to replace, no more noise and no dash warnings,
and at least I'll get my money back, thanks to ebay buyer protection.
