I've just cancelled an order for a new Navara NP300 in Thailand.

I should have done more research beforehand, but I was very surprised (dissapointed) to find the "new model" NP300 uses exactly the same engine as the 2010 onwards models i.e. The 190 PS, 450 NM.

I even contacted DTE tuning and Andrew confirmed their "upgrade" for the old model will plug straight into the new one.

It got me thinking was it worth shelling out 20,000 quid for what is essentially a nicer face and a much improved cabin with some fancy toys inside. I decided it was not and bought an immaculate 2012 4x4 6MT with some good extra's and only 5,000 miles on it for 8,100 quid.

The difference should buy a decent set of wheels and tyres!

After reading your post I put some thought into my new navara that I have put a deposit down on. Compared to the uk price of 28k plus. I am paying 20k for the 2.5 double cab auto with every option ticked on the highest spec model. Including free insurance 5 years servicing I decided to stick with it.

So the "all new navara" isn't?
I haven't seen anything on a pathfinder veriant of the np300 yet! Will there be one?
Edit: never mind 5 min on Google found this

if that is going to be the new Pathfinder, Ill be surprised if it a 7seater, not with that shaped rear. If it is, there will be less space after the 3rd row than a discovery 4.

There isn't much information about the european Pathfinder (the US version is different). Maybe it will receive a new name but looking at the pictures it looks pretty much like an np300 at the front & like the D40 pathy at the rear.

It will probably offer the same engines & tranmission choices as the Np300 but with an awd system.

Here are some pictures:

The 2.3 single and twin turbo is for Europe, I assume for improved efficiency and perhaps the promise of high quality fuel?. In Thailand and other markets it retains the old 2.5 single turbo unit. Essentially the trucks are the same although I believe there are some spec differences for the different markets however crucially the new NP300 double cab has the proper rear suspension so it rides comfortably rather than crashing about like a typical pickup. I would say thats worth the upgrade alone! Plus you get the new interior which IMHO looks so much better than the old D40.

Maybe it's that in the EU you can't sell the old 2.5 engine owing to Euro-6 pollution requirements, but in Thailand people are expected to breathe in the extra particulates and extra NOx from the 2.5?? Clearly the newer 2.3 passes the EU tests, but Nissan will certainly want to unload any stocks of the old 2.5 anywhere they are allowed.

I would really hope that the new Renault 2.3 is a better piece of kit than the old 2.5, which, if you hang out on this forum, you can't help but notice it did seem to have too many problems - Nissan are not great at diesel engines.

As it happened, I got drive a brand new Micra a couple of days ago. Quite a nice car in fact, with all the latest gimmicks. The worst part of it was the engine - a bit of a bag of bolts in my view; not sure if that came from Renault or not, but usually Renault's small petrol engines seem more refined than Nissan's, so maybe the Micra had a Nissan engine? It might just have been a rough 'un....
