Hi everyone. Yes, it's happened to me too........blown D22. 84500 miles and 4 months over the 5years.
20 seconds of a knocking and then loud bang, oil everywhere........what could it be on that piticular engine??
Unfortunatley nothing came out of the block so the dealer needs me to ok the diagnosis stripdown of the engine. Fine if Nissan is going to cover it but I doubt if they will as there is missing service history. (No one ever told me 6000 mile srevices ....stupid me for not reading the manual i know). It has had a dealer service every year with it's MOT tho.
Can anyone tell me how much this should cost as my dealer doesnt seem to be able to guess a figure and whats the best course of action regarding a new(er) engine??
Any replies much appreciated.. :salute:

Update - blown over!! Nissan giving me new engine and the dealer is throwing in a new clutch too....i pay £900 towards it which I think is pretty ok as I thought I would be getting a HUGE bill. (Good on ya Alex F Noble & sons, Edinburgh)

Hello everybody,

in my opinion that engine looks exactly like my YD25DDTi which blew last week after 96.000 km's. Unbelievable! Nissan dealer said 10.000 euro's for replacing it with a new 1/2 engine. Jezus! Does anybody know a cheaper place to get them?

I live in Finland. At the moment I'm also waiting for an answer from Nissan Europe because it's an '03 car, but the km's on it are ridiculous in my opinion. This **** happens to an old mercedes with 500.000 on the meter or an old Landcruiser with 900.000 on it. Not a just driven in Nissan engine. Come on!

Its a pretty well known problem with the bolts,if your truck has full dealer service history then they do it FOC but if you have partial service history its worth trying.Sounds expensive over there though as here you can get the replacement half engine and fitting for under 3 grand.

1/2 engine costs at the nissan dealer 6952 euro's, non-dealer 5400 euro's (Finland). Now I found a company in Holland (I'm Dutch) which offers the 1/2 engine for 4100 exl.VAT. And these prices are witjout the work even. I bet it takes some time before you get all the parts, timing, etc etc. changed. And all the time we're without a car, that really sucks, especially if one lives in the country sides where no trains & busses go...

We'll see

I just looked at the recovered parts and indeed one bolt from the rod is missing, the other one is in place. I think the cars for europe are assembled in spain (same factory as primastar) but does anybody know if the engine is made here, too? I'll try to attach 2 (bad) pictures the dealer made from the parts and one side of the engine, it's the place where the return-line of the turbo goes back in the engine -normaly- :)

I have an 04 rallye raid, had it since 27000 miles now on 69000, serviced an average of every 8000, i know this is not ideal and am tightening up the service intervals, i plan to renew bottom end bearings and con rod bolts within the next 3000 miles , do u know where i can get these parts other than the nearest wessex nissan dealer as there prices are quite high from previous experience, i have a very good mechanic freind to do the work who works on local authourity vehicles and some military stuff. Recently i have noticed when i turn the engine off after driving the 44 miles to work it seems to stop with a slight clunk and a bit of a shake, is this something to worry about, cheers

Is there a list anywhere of engine numbers affected by this problem? I have posted a question on the forum about engine number TD25-081269. Just wondering if it will need the bottom end done.

Yea OK, several YD25 engines in D22 pick-ups have thrown rods or "blown up'. Discos blow up, Transits blow up, as do Polos and Corsas. DAF and Scania along with Fendt and John Deere. All have a history of blown engines at some stage for some reason. My point being it is a machine it can go wrong.....Duuuhhhhhh . Consider that there are up to and beyond 100,000 D22 trucks in Britain, if 10% go pop that is around 10,000, to date I can only find 1 local situation and 6 situations on the net-in truth. so if 7 in 100,000 go bang then I say spot on Nissan!
I think the issue is that....
"Forums are where where folk who know nothing about it come to discuss it in depth'

Stop the scare tactics, the D22 is a good truck, start it, warm it up, drive and enjoy it. Take your D22 out on the shoot, tow a horse box, commute to work all fine, but if you rake it and try to prove that you can burn some toss pot off at the lights when he is driving a BMW or a GTI then yea!!!... I hope you do get con rods and block all over the road!.

If your the kind of prat who thinks a ute is a car and stuff it up the motor way at 95 mph for 4 hrs and try to prove you pecker is 0,5 mm longer than the oily tick in the Baemer who is trying to prove he has a pecker at all! then I wish you oil slicks, con rods that look like clocks springs and bits of block you could hide in a pepper grinder!

Quick note to anyone thinking about whipping the sump off before breakfast and slipping in some new shells and bolts Don't! After 5 Hours with a 2 post lift, a full Snap-on three tier roll cab, with Snap-on tools, and a 30 year qualified and experienced mechanic, the out and out opinion was
a) Take the engine out it would be much easier.
b) Just drive it and IF it EVER goes bang then fit new bolts to the short engine you put in to it.
c) Enjoy your ute use it for what it was intended for and don't expect it be a Zonda......

Pop it back in to your pants, do your flys up fellers, there nothing wrong with this truck but there are a lot of folk out there and on forums doing loads of recommending and spouting and making a pile of cash out of you all in the process.
