Got power at pins 3 & 4 nothing at 1, cheers
Ok, the wiring diagram I have has four pins, 1, 2, 3 and 5. So it appears that we'll have to try this another way.

Two of the pins should have power. One should be the control side and one should be the load side. It looks like you have identified these and they are good. Do you have something that can apply a load (as above)? If not, we'll run with what we have for now.

Of the other two pins, one will go to the glow plug rail and one will go to the ecu. The ECU grounds/earths the first pin to energise the coil which allows current to flow from the 2nd 'power' pin to the glow plugs.

Can you identify the pin that goes to the ECU?

Automotive relays almost always have redundant pins as they're a generic component used for lots of different purposes. There are only 4 pins used in this application though. It's the relay holder that we are concerned with as that carries the connections we need to test.

I just went out to check mine and it has 4 cables going into it, 2 big chunky ones (load side) and 2 skinny ones at the rear (control side).

Should be easy enough to identify which is which as you have power on 2 of the pins and they will be a skinny and a chunky one.

It does, which would explain the confusion. Yours sounds like it has a 'glow plug controller' as opposed to a relay. The diagrams I have say all D40 models have a standard relay. Mine is a 2007(Pathfinder R51), which model is your Navara?

Apologies bud, that will be an entirely different kettle of fish then. I've just had a quick google and it appears you will have a 'glow plug controller', often referred to by manufacturers as a relay so you're quite right to call it that too. Usually these have canbus control so are a bit more complex to test than a 'standard' relay. Still usually solvable with a multimeter and test lamp though. I'll see if I can find a wiring diagram for that and continue on your thread if I do.

Hi, 2013 nav, keep getting a check engine light on, sometimes every start sometimes 1 in 4ish p0380 so its glow circuit related.

Its had a new set of plugs and a new battery yesterday as 1 plug was knackered and the battery failed test. Glow relay/controller was replaced about a year ago.

Getting just over 10v at each plug, not sure if I should be seeing battery voltage or not?

Any help would be appreciated and if any one has a circuit diagram or schematic that would be great.

Cheers

Pete.
