Hi all,
I've pulled apart my 08 Navara D22 with the 2.5L engine to get to the timing chains but I cant get the full plate off something keeps catching it. Do I have to pull the sump off to get the plate off or is there something else I need to get off

Have you taken off the bolts to the oil pump/front cover from underneath?

I'm assuming you are in tje southern hemeshere? Your location in your profile will help. viewtopic.php?f=38&t=99610

In the UK, we're not used to the D22 with the later direct injection engine (as used on the D40) . We stopped getting the D22 in 2005.

Does your engine have the crankshaft counterbalance fitted like the D40?

Got it sorted. Its was an oil feeder for the crankshaft that hangs down into the sump a little.

I didn't realise the engines change for the UK. Because my engine is the YD25 CTI. The common rail engine without the balance gear in the bottom.

uk didnt get them but we did in south europe from 2007 to 2010 or something like that. the australia forum knows everything there is about your ute

Hi mate is there a guide on here to take the bottom cam cover off? I think mine is leaking either that or its the sump gasket near the crank pulley end, i fixed the leak from the top cover but now its still leaking cheers

The nearest we have is for the D40, but it is mostly the same where it matters for you. http://www.nissan-navara.net/28-how...ow-guides/24706-d40-r51-billcar-duplex-cam-chain-conversion-guide-download.html

Hi mate cheers for the guide, but do you know if it's necessary to drain the oil out the sump etc! I've read somewhere on this forum that the d40 engines are different to the d22's and to take off the bottom cam cover the sump as to come off and to get the sump off the engine as to come out [emoji57] lol

You don't need to drain the oil if you don't disturb the sump(s).

As far as taking the front cover (oil pump) off, the D40 and D22 are almost the same. The problem arises if the Billcar modification spigot is fitted between the sump and the front cover. If one is fitted the sump needs to be removed first, which does involve pulling the engine off the gearbox. (Nightmare):faint

You need to be careful refitting the front cover as well, as the O ring oil seal is not the easiest to keep in place while you do it. This thread may be of interest: http://www.nissan-navara.net/17-technical-assistance-d22/3311-d22-engine-problem-summary.html

Ok mate thanks for the guide, and where about is the oil seal located? I hope its not the crank oil seal that's actually leaking, I'm hoping its just the cam cover gasket needs re sealing [emoji106]

The O ring i'm talking about sits between the sump and the bottom of the front cover. It sits over the hole that the pressurised oil from the oil pump is transferred to a pipe system in the upper sump.

Thanks for your help I really appreciate it mate [emoji1303], i've now fixed all the oil leaks, the last one was a right pain, i tried to get the bottom 19mm crank pulley bolt off to get to the lower cam cover with a impact socket and a 1/2 inch breaker bar oh also a 5ft scaffold bar on top and it would not budge at all! it was just spinning the engine in 5th gear lol, i even heated it up with a propane torch and still no good, my last final attempt was that i wedged the breaker bar between the chassis and flicked the ignition over a few times and the shock from the starter loosened the bolt yey :) lol the leak turned out to be the crank oil seal at the back of the pulley leaking, saved me having to take the lower cover off anyhow, the seal just cost me ÂŁ5 from nissan [emoji481]
