Thanks, This worked a treat. I was hopefull for some improvements but feared the injectors were failing or the dreaded timing chain was making the noise.
Responce is improved, smokes less on hard acceleration and sounds 10x better. Could not have asked for more 10 minutes of playing.

Thanks to Boohoo for reading through the workshop manual, resetting ECU and FUEL pump MAY help in cutting down on that horrible tapping noise that the D40 suffers from.
Ive carryed out this reset and the engine is alot smoother, more responsive, less smokey and alot less tappy.

To carry out the reset carry out the following

Turn ingnition on so all dash lights come on.

Wait 3 seconds

PUMP accelerator pedel 5 times within 5 seconds....

with foot now OFF accelerator wait 7 seconds...

After 7 seconds press and hold down accelerator pedel for 10 seconds...

Atfer 10 seconds the Engine Managment Light will start to flash, at this point remove foot from accelerator.

the Nav is now in diag mode, so let the EML flash for a bit. the press and hold the acclerator pedel down for more than 10 seconds..this will then reset ECU and fuel pump etc......and put them into learning mode.

NOTE: When the EML light is flashing, this is listing possible fault codes... so if you know how to read the fault codes or know the sequences then you can figure out any possible faults with your Nav with out getting the dealer to do it!! :D

I have A Nissan Navara 2008 Diesel..It run out of Fuel, When I Top It Up It Runs But Can No Longer Pick Up Power and Stays in 60 km/h and the engine speed stays in 2000 rpm. I Scanned It Myself and it Says " Fuel Pump / Circuit."
I've Changed The Suction Control Valve But Still Won't Work.

I can't work out why you have you posted this question on an existing thread about fuel pump reset.

If you would like to be part of this forum, please make and introduction in the intro section and then start a new thread in the Q&A area describing your problem in detail.

I've carried out this reset and the engine is a lot smoother, more responsive, less smokey, and a lot less happy.

To carry out the reset, carry out the following:

Turn the ignition on so all dash lights come on.

PUMP the accelerator pedal 5 times within 5 seconds.

with the foot now OFF accelerator wait 7 seconds.

After 7 seconds, press and hold down the accelerator pedal for 10 seconds.

Thanks so much for this Andy. My son was driving my 2014 Navara and it just stopped in the middle of the road. The roadside assist guy and the mechanic both decided it was a problem with the fuel pump. The mechanic said he couldn’t fix it. We called Nissan Sevice Centre and they said they could fix it but it would take 6 weeks and cost $8,000. I dropped in to the mechanics and tried your routine above and the car started and I drove it away. The car is fine nothing wrong with it. Thanks heaps
