Have seen YD25 engines advertised as 2wd and 4wd can anybody here tell me if they are the same or at least interchangeable, I could understand that the sensors etc could be different for the ecu but are there any mechanical differences?

Possibly the bell housing is different? But cant see there being any other difference

The D22 version sold here as the NP300, has the same engine for both 2wd and 4wd versions ie 2.5td or 2.4 petrol.

I drive a 2wd D23 and the engine is exactly the same as the 4wd version ie 2.3dt

Don't know for the D22 Nav but for the D40 YD25 There is a high power 188hp and a low power 142hp.

Here in Thailand 2WD get the 142hp engine and 4wd get the 188hp engine.

From what ive been told the difference between the 2 are head gasket thickness and ECU tune.

Yeah still not really any the wiser but hopefully someone will come along, have seen some 2wd write offs with low k's going pretty cheap so if motor is the same would be good, wreckers won't commit/comment which is fair enough if somebody comes back at them.
Have been caught a few times over the years swapping engines and gearboxes so just trying to make sure.
