We have a Nissan Navara first registered in Cyprus 2005, D22 engine. We had heard about the problem with the Navara about 3 months ago and were quite alarmed as to the outcome of the problem caused by the “O” ring and bolts failing.

We had what I can only describe as a chattering noise one morning for about 4 seconds and then nothing more. It has happened about six times since but does not sound like a big end knock. It is random as to the engine being cold or hot but it is only on start up.

I have adjusted all the belts, flushed the engine and changed the oil. The car is serviced every 6000Km and we use mobile 1 oil.

As cars here are expensive I would rather prevent the big bang if that is what you think could be the start of it. Seeking your advice...

If youve done the belts I wonder if its a heat shield on the exhaust thats worked loose. Might be worth getting under it one morning and get someone to start it for you.

Thanks for that advice I will do this as soon as I get home. We have took the car off the road until we are satisfied that we don't have the problem related to the "O" ring.
Even though our engine number is out side those put on the web site, does any body recommend that we change the "O" ring and clean out the strainer as a pre-cautionary measure while we have the car off the road.
My biggest worry is that we do us this car in some extreme conditions delivering equipment into remote places in Cyprus and we can not afford the big bang that everyone keeps going on about.
