I rather enjoy shifting gears "manually" in my Pathfinder, but the shift pattern is starting to annoy me. It seems BMW are the only manufacturer to get it right, with push for downshifts and pull for upshifts.

I would assume it can't be too hard to change this though, but I don't know how the shifter is constructed. Has anyone got any more information on this subject?

Don't think you'll get much info about that, best to just open it up your self and see if you can swap the switches or swap the wires going to them, as far as i know they are just simple contact switches.

BMW's aren't the only ones, my wife's Mazda 6 is like that too. Makes it hard jumping from one to the other and to me makes more sense to have it the BMW/Mazda way.

Life's too short for messing about changing gear, that's why auto boxes were invented :wink:

It's probably just me being used to manual cars - but the lack of engine braking feels rather scary So I like to be able to select a lower gear on the way in to a corner to help slow down 2.3 tonnes of truck

Any tips on how to open the case around the lever would be good, don't want to crack any plastics!
