Hi,
The battery light/charging light is on and off intermitently on the nav(2003). The garage report that the alternator is putting out too much voltage i.e. overcharging at between 15 and 16 volts. Replacement 2nd hand alternator put in and still too much voltage. This would initially point to the same fault in the replacement, but is there anything other than the regulator in the alternator that would control the voltage output ie ECU - GULP!!? :pale:
Does anyone else have any experience of this problem?

Hi tuscany
I've have had a quick look at the wiring diagram and the ECM does not control the charging circuit. The ECM itself requires 11-14V to operate correctly.
Un-luckily for you, I think this replacement alternator is also faulty as it should be 'self sensing' to deliver the correct charge of 14.5-14.8V max under load.
Just MO as I'm no auto electrician
Let us know how you get on, as this is the 3rd time I've read of this over charging alternators problem on D22's
Good luck with it :thumbleft:

I get stuff like this repaired by a guy who is 80 yrs old, some stuff can be bought cheaper than repairing it.

You need a new regulator fitted part costs around a fiver and another fiver to fit it.

You could get one and fit it yourself if you are handy :thumbleft:
