Greetings: I am new to the D22 fold: i have had it for 4 days.
I own a 2005 vehicle, new to me.
When I place it in 4 wheel drive, after some driving, there is a periodic clacking noise seeming to ome from the front right side of the vehicle. ometimes, the green 4wd light in the dash does not go off, when the manual switch is thrown: a few moments driving later, there is the same clack, when the dransmission disengages.
What may this be due to, and more importantly, how can i look to diagnose and fix the same:
the cross to the front transission case seems fine, and the cv jpints appear ok.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Phil

When you are engaging 4 wheel drive I do hope this is on loose slippery surfaces :thumbleft:
If you are using 4WD on sealed/tarmac surfaces then this is the sound of 'transmission wind-up' and this 'clacking' noise is the mechanical parts over-stressing  and will cause major damage :pale:
Engagement in and out of the 4WD to 2WD should be smooth and possible 'on the fly', ie whilst still moving at lower speeds or when stationary :thumbleft:

ok.
I just googled, and I feel much more illuminated. Danke.
I now understand that this is ok, and not a "design feature", and not something the previous owner wrecked.
I have just moved over from an ISUZU 4JB1, where I could drive in 4wd on tarmac, without the "windup" occuring.
I have only tried this twice, and that was yesterday.
let's hope nothing is broken.
I will say, I feel i have gotten a good deal: i have had the electronic fuel pump replaced, as well as that neutral switch, by the dealer.
Thanks for the follow up.
Regards,
Phil

Great mate :thumbleft:
Seems like no damage done and enjoy your great truck :thumbleft:
Not all 4X4's operate in the same way :study:
