My 2006 D40 has developed a clicking from the rear end that I think is coming from the drive shaft? The noise only emits when the engine is driving and not when coasting etc.

I have seen reference to this in other posts. I applied some penetrating oil and the noise eased for a while. I have Booked in for a general service to include this. But my trusted garage cannot fit me in for three weeks. Will this be okay to drive or do I need to get it looked at sharpish?

Many thanks

If a drive shaft UJ was to fail it would potentially dangerous and an expensive repair, bearing that in mind it would be hard to advise you on the risks of driving without an actual physical inspection.
If you had access to a vice and some tools you could fix it yourself.

Totally agree with Digger man. Get it sorted sharpish, it could cause all kinds of grief if it fails. :really

I've got the same thing. Story is -- took it for its MOT last week and it failed on excessive play on rear wheel bearings. Same ticking noise as you, rear wheel nearside. Noise got worse and the garage couldn't get the parts so it's in today with Billcar. They are a bit suspicious of the garage's diagnosis taking into account it has only done 50k miles. They will call me with a proper diagnosis when they have had a proper look. PM me if you want more info. I'll keep these boards posted with the story. :bowdown1
