Compression Loss

Any ideas gratefully received

I have a Navara D40, 2.5L diesel 4cyl, 06 plate with 400,000km on the clock, has been running well, and is still on the original clutch. However, the other day i was driving away from the house and the nav was cold, it threw me into limp home mode and an engine management light came on. It reset when i turned it off and started again, and drove fine all day through numerous stop starts, only to repeat the performance the next morning. The error code said fuel leak but there was no obvious fuel leak. SO after a couple of days of this im driving along and it starts smoking, losing power, suddenly my turbo has gone from kicking in at 1.6k revs to 3k revs it is still driving but like a slug. So once i get home i park it up for the night and next morning it drives normaly again for a couple of hours before the same thing starts to happen again. Its due in to Nissan on monday for a compression test but a friend of mine did some quick tests and said that its losing compressioin on the no 4 cylinder only but not sure why, injectors "seem" fine, turbo is ok.

So if anyone has any experience of this scenario, or any opinions to offer i would appreciate it.
