Hi im sure someone has come across this already. In traffic earlier engine started running lumpy like it was running just on 3 cylinders. There was no sign of smoke out the back and it pulled away ok but not full power.Any ideas.? I cleaned the MAF last week but may not have used the right stuff as my neighbour gave me contact cleaner instead of maf cleaner he said would do the job.If not that would it be an injector or even a fuel filter.
There are no lights on the dash or no limp mode.It starts ok for a minute then gets lumpy again. Many Thanks.

Contact cleaner is ideal for cleaning the MAF, unless you handled or touched the actual sensor it should be fine.

For now, your first port of call has to be a new fuel filter, then do an ECU reset. Report back with results please.

C'mon, catch up :bbbump
:wedgie I'm on baby sitting duty lol

As that sky CHAP quoted  hopefully you haven't touched the hair like wires inside of the maf, they're the actual sensors if ya like. Blow the hell out of them with the contact cleaner, you'll see colours on them when they're clean. Make sure you allow at least 15mins for it to dry before re-installing.
Filter change, check/change air filter an a quick ecu reset.
Take it from there buddy :awesomework

Thanks lads had read up a bit and ill go straight for fuel filter tomorrow. Didn't touch MAF so hoping that's all it is.Did the re set a while ago so will do also and report. Will try elimnating injectors one by one. Many Thanks

Mate... Walk before running. Not knocking anyone's suggestions, but try the cheap basics first.
Too many People do pumps/injectors when it's summat or nowt.
These motors hate dirty filters, always the first port of call IMO

Perfect.Ill do the filter and to be honest I think the MAF might still be dirty.I know where to look at the sensor and the colours are not perfect so ill give them another go with the proper stuff from the auto shop while im getting a new filter. All makes sense.ill keep you posted

Re: D 40 06 engine running lumpy and vibrating badly on idle

Hi reporting back.
Changed fuel filter and did ECU reset and its the same.In fact worse.I think now it could be clutch breaking down or if there is a crank shaft damper that could be gone.Truck pulling great but vibrating badly through the cabin and seats on idle and during gear change.
Thanks
