Hi there i have just joined and was wondering if anyone can help me or point me in the right direction. I have just been given my dads 2004 d22 as he got a new d40 and its a bit down on power, It chucked a rod out through the side of the block and died so he put a new engine in with the modified bottom end and shes never been the same since the old engine would walk allover this one. Ive had it at an independant diesel specialist who said there was an error code in the fuel pump which they cleared but shes no better. is it possible my dad bought the wrong engine for the truck as i have read that there are a few engines for this truck with different hp outputs it should be around 130bhp but its more like 80bhp at the moment and might i add that the old engine blew up at 94000 miles. Any info would be great so i can get her back to the way she was before she went bang. Many thanks

Is this lack of power in all gears or just 3/4/5

Hi and thanks for the welcome. The lack of power is in all gears all the time and all filters just been replaced and new engine just had its first servive. All the ancillaries from old engine went on to new engine incldine the fuel pump after a call to the local nissan dealer who said the pumps are plug and play they dont need programmed to the engine. There is no smoke of any kind no matter how you drive it tho some times its as if the fuel has run back to the tank as it can be hard to start if sitting nose first uphill. its not that bad to drive on her own but give her a trailer to pull and shes dead. I will add a pic of the new engine tonight as old engine went back to supplier of new engine which was not bought from nissan i was from an ebay seller. whats more annoying is the turbo seems to be doing it job correctly according to the noises from it but its llike driving a non turbo charged engine, could oil or parts of the old engine have travelled to the turbo and damaged it when she blew up?

thats a good question regarding the damage to the turbo as i was thinking the same.
infact, exactly how much damaged elsewhere could happen when the engine pops?

Would the crank sensor not put the engine management light on if faulty of worse? I will need to check wi my dad as to where the engine came from ebay tho i do remember there was a 6 month warranty with it and my dad said the engine came with a fuel pump on it i thought we used the pump from old engine. can anyone tell me what the power out put should be im thinking now that if we had swaped the pumps over before fitting the new engine it might have been ok and how easy is it to test and change the crank sensor?

try swapping the injectors out with the one from the blown motor. did that to a friends Yd25, and the old engine came to live :rockon

This is exactly what usually happens, injectors left open with no cap plugs are getting defective, power action of the injector are getting seized and you have engine with no power.
I have a nice technique to check of this is the case with low power engine complaints.

Checking injection timing to verify timing system is in correct alignment and checking turbo boost pressure.
If both are ok replace injectors.
