Hello friendly folk.

I've popped over from the Nissan 350z comunity! I have in my possesion a Navara D40 auto dimming mirror from a 2004 model vehcile. It's a single power button on the front and a 5 pin conenctor at the back. I'd like to find a wiring digram and/or connector for this to wire It into my 350z, it seems Nissan installed these on the US models of the 350z but not the UK, they seem to be the same mirror so it's just a case of understanding the wiring I asusme of the 5pins I only need to connect 2-3 of them :). Does anyone have a wiring diagram or photos? Knowing the conenctor name/model would be a help too.

Many thanks fellow Nissan lovers!

Hello there. Nissan did quite a lot of robbing of the 350z for D40 parts, the brakes, the petrol V6 (us) etc.
The workshop manual has got dozens of pages of wiring diagrams, so there might be something in there.

A few things...

The D40 was not introduced until 05.

The sensors in the mirror are also for the auto headlights-probably explaining the 5 wires.

The auto dip doesn't seem to do anything in particular, a question of is it worth it? I would have said not.

Well currently It's the old fashioned flicky switch under the mirror, making it automatic would be lovely it's one less old fashioned hangover. If it's posisble to switch the headlights automatically then that would be great fun too! Eaither way simple steps first would be to enable the auto dimming :)

When you say 5 pin connector - is it actually a 7 pin connector but with only 5 pins present?

The diagram I've found references a 7 pin connector but only with pins 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7 - and the diagram only appears to show three of them in relation to the mirror: 5 (reverse override), 6 (ground) and 7 (ignition +ve)...

Perhaps pins 1 & 2 are referenced on a different diagram...

Cheers :) The mirror in both diagrams is the same however since the pins are within range and the mysterious pin 1-2 are snapped off I'm going to assume they just don't show you the full manual for all of the homelink and additional functionality (I'll bet the same board is present in all the mirrors and they just snap the pins and change the casing to "downgrade" it to the standard). The auto headlights and washers are controlled via a light and rain sensor which is a seperate module attached to the windscreen in front of the mirror (if you have it). Which might also be possible to retrofit (the navara indicator stalk has the same conenctions so it might be possible to swap out the 350 stalk and add in the navara one with an auto setting for the headlights, I guess with a bit of custom wiring you can pretend that auto is really headlight on but modulated by the sensor).

Either way in regards to this issue It shouldn't be much work to rig up a test and prove the concept :) If it's easy enough there might well be a new market for navara mirrors!

Thanks very much guys I'll report back when I've rigged soemthing up, might be a week or so with easter in the way

Good luck and keep us posted!

One point to note is that my post related to the harness connector to the mirror - I'm not sure whether there's a separate lead that runs from the connector on the mirror itself to the harness? I've never pulled my mirror apart to have a look :)

I.e. there might be a 5 pin connector into the mirror that has a 7 pin connector on the other end that connects to the room harness...

The manuals clearly show pins 5-6-7 are the ones used in the mirror for anti dazzle, however the wiring diagram says pins 1-2 are also wired into the connector. I'd be curious to see if you all have 5 lines into your mirrors rather than 3. I'd assume so as whatever magical feature pins 1-2 are used for the wiring harness will be the same across all the models. The qashqai for example doesn't have front fog lights on the base model but the plugs are present behind the front bumper so they're easily upgradable, it makes little sense to have multiple models at the wiring and harness stage and more sense to have the end hardware dictate what features can be used. I'd guess swapping out for a mirror with pins 1-2 present lets you use whatever feature that is (possibly it's just power and ground for the homelink stuff that some mirrors have)
