Been in contact with Billcar already. However , I'm not entirely clear what their motivation is for collating data on the D40 chassis problems.

Nissan GB claim they have not received any complains from D40 owners in the UK concerning Chassis Corrosion or Chassis Cracks.

Bit puzzled really ?

It is an interesting question. It will be extremely difficult to get a true picture of how many D40s are suffering from failing chassis. Even with these figures, Nissan will never accept liability.

That is just a fudge, they will have received many complaints just not recorded them, as they do not wish to accept liability.

It is what it is, Billcar have shown interest, no doubt they have their reasons. Nissan will continue to keep their heads planted firmly in the sand until accident statistics with a direct link to corroding chassis' force them into a recall which is highly unlikely.

I had another call from Nissan GB about the cracking chassis issue today.

Its definitely a case of denial until such time that a fatality occurs and Nissan are forced to take responsibility.

May I suggest that D40 owners who have the same issue post some pictures and comments on the Nissan UK Facebook page ?

Sometimes "name & shame" tactics via social media make large organisations sit up and take notice. If nothing else I will alert other Nissan Navara D40 owners to the potential dangers so they can check their vehicles for chassis cracks before there is a serious incident or fatality.

The Facebook thing is not a bad idea. Again the problem is getting in touch with all the victims :dunno

You have said you cannot weld your chassis, what do you intend to do with your truck now?

My 2005 Navara D40 is a right off because of the chassis corrosion and the cracks. Its not viable to replace the chassis so will have to go for scrap.

The profile of the D40 rust issue is gaining momentum on Facebook and Twitter. I would urge anyone with a similar issue to follow and retweet the latest posting to get Nissan GB to take notice. The more Navara owners tweeting about this , the better our chances of getting some positive reaction from Nissan GB.

Nissan GB also claimed to have never received any complaints about D22 engines blowing up!

Motto:
Never trust Nissan GB!

Not good.

The only person that can tell you for sure if the chassis can be saved is whoever is going to have a go at welding it back up. :nailbiting

Have a look at Gramas' thread, viewtopic.php?f=10&t=99306

AWFUL just awful!
And Nissan GB don't recognise these rusting problems as a generic problem?
This is absolutely disgraceful, one or two yes, from possible salt contamination, but there are serious numbers involved now.
These are not old trucks, they should NOT be disintegrating like this!
I own a D22 that got through 2 engines to reach 88,000 miles!
I agree that Navara's D22's & 40's are the best drivers, but we should not be having these inbuilt generic faults.
Mine is running perfectly at the moment (touch wood), I intend to keep it for the forseeable future, as with the big black cloud that hangs over Navaras, it would be hard to achieve a realistic sale price, but when the time comes for a change I will be banging on an Isuzu sellers door.

WE like Pics. lol
Paul.

:thumbright:. Just to let you all know I had a good weekend working on markieparkie`s chassis.

When he arrived on Friday evening it looked like I had quite a job on my hands to get it done. So Saturday we removed the tub and got the chassis steam cleaned, when we got back to base the hard work started.

The pics (to follow) will show the extent of the rust that had gotten in,
and then cut out as much as I dared, then replaced with 5mm steel, then waxoyl inside and outside to protect.

Hope you all approve of what has been done.

Went for MOT on Monday at 1630 and it passed with just 2 advisories, slight play in both lower front ball joints and slight rear brake imbalance.
Paul

Before too much work.

Looks absolutely fantastic, night and day by comparison. You've made a massive difference to that chassis Paul. Well done. :awesomework
Thanks Keith. I am happy with the results, just hope markieparkie is when he collects later today.

Truck collected and I think a happy Trucker left with a Safer Truck.
Happy motoring Marcus. Hope you like the end result.

What can I say, apart from you need to live closer.

Just got to say a massive Thank you to Paul and his boy! Great work from what was a real challenge..

Really impressed with the work! The truck even got a clean inside and out..

Thanks once again Paul!

P.S. Anyone hear reading this debating on whether to get your chassis treated and checked, especially on the rear passenger side, please get it sorted as much longer this would of been totally forked or worse still caused an accident. I was shocked to see the actual amount it had failed... Nissan should be ashamed!
