Hi guys, me again with yet another newly found fault on my new 57 d40, i do use the truck for launching dive boats regularly, when i pulled up the slipway i accidentally stalled her, turned the ignition off and back on tried to restart, but no luck.., she just rev up to 1000rpm and cuts out... Only way i got her to keep running was to put my foot on the throttle while turning her over she started missed a bit and cleared... No fault codes engine light ect...? Also i have changed the feul filter about two weeks ago...

Any info/ help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks Lou

How much fuel in the tank and how steep was the slipway?

Check there isn't air being drawn into the fuel system. Make sure you have not under or overtightened the fuel clips on the filter. Try the fuel priming bulb that is mounted under the filter, it should go hard after a few pumps.

Keep us posted :thumbleft:

The pick up in the tank is central, but the tank slopes at the rear..
Your more likely to run it dry going downhill than uphill.
As skyward says, check the fuel lines/clips and also make sure no breather from the tank to the filler neck is missing or dangling into water/sea!

You made it sound like there is no issue now and your just wanting to find out why.., is that correct ?

Thanks man, ill check them. Just stalled her on purpose on the flat and she does exactly the same, just revs to 1000rpm and cuts out.... Only way i got her to start/idle is to put my foot on the throttle while cranking... Still got 3/4 tank of diesel, all the clips ect looks good, will try the bulb, see if its hard next....

Thanks lou

Ah right, I had a very similar experience just before I swapped my DMF to solid.
Obviously I can't back this theory as I can't test it now.

I had a lot of play in the DMF, when under load with the caravan on, the upstart of drive was very touch an go. Odd occasions the engine light came on and the motor cut out.
I kinda put it down to the flywheel sensor getting duff info from the ever jumping DMF.

Never had a problem since I skipped the DMF.

In theory it makes sense ... Kind of

Do you have any judder or vibration when setting off????

Hi Biggi, it does make sense! She's done 50k and never towed, cluch feels smooth to bee honest, slightly high on the pedal, but was told they do bite a bit high...... Had a chat to an old pal who had a 07 aventura from new, he had similar problems with re-starting after stalls, at about 60k, his has done 130 k now, ended up being the egr walve sticking open causing the poor restart, plus not bringing up any fault codes, he blanked his and havent had the fault since!!
So ive got a blanking plate on its way to try..... Fingers crossed!!

Hi all, blanked the egr, truck was still the same, doesnt want to restart straight after stopping the engine/stalling, and had the famous limp home mode when accelerating hard / overtaking.... After reading all the posts, i decided to change the suction control valve on the fuel pump, that done all the starting/ limp home faults are gone and she feels loads more responsive!! Happy days!

Thanks for all the help!

Regards Lou
