Hi all, i have a 2005, D22, 71k miles. Had slight knocking from engine which got worse, pulled over and got towed home, presume it is the con rod problem, engine still runs but very noisy, does this mean a new engine or can existing be re-built.

Hi and welcome :D
By the sounds of it and the year/mileage I would say defno bigends :( however you may have just caught it before major damage by stopping when you did :!:
Would say 1 if not 2 ends have failed but the crank maybe ok and you'll get away with just the 'mod'. Worst way new crank and bearings :pale:
Need to drop your sump to know either way :(
Good luck

I have a D22, 2004, which I bought recently knowing the engine had gone. I was hoping to pick up a reconditioned engine and get a mate to fit it. Easier said than done, I have gone on the old interweb trying to find a reputable company to supply a reconditioned engine, however I seem to get flooded with the greatest offers every only to go on line and check the company finding numerous complaints regarding service and doubtful delivery of the engine. Does anyone know where I can purchase a decent reconditioned engine from a reputable company????

Buy a good second hand engine from Thorntons breakers and get the engine mod done.
tbh I wouldn`t trust a lot of the engine recon outfits nowadays,
Billcar would be worth a shout though :thumbleft:

Dropped sump off this week, shells have completely gone on No.4, crank + con rod very rough, looks like bits of shells welded to them. In bottom of sump is a gritty paste presumably ground up shells, think new engine may be on cards as this must have been pumped round complete engine so god knows what wear it may have caused to other parts of engine, (would welcome others thoughts on this). As per previous reply, anyone know best place for proper recon engine.

That doesnt sound good mate :(

Have you got any pics of the bearings, con rod, crank journal etc?

If you take the engine to a reputable shop they can advise on a rebuild,or if you are near Shrewsbury I think Billcar Engineering are there.

As said before a good 2nd hand engine from Thorntons breakers and the ACL shells and ARP bolts :thumbleft:

If getting a short motor is a problem there is this route viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10010
However, all the old bits from the original D22 YD25 lump would need a good wash'n'flush to ensure none of the debris from the failure contaminates the 'new' lump :!:
