Hiya, just about to buy a d22 that has had a new engine fitted by Nissan, how do I know if this engine will need the uprated cam shaft bolts?
You mean "crankshaft" bolts, and almost certainly yes it will need the mod doing, maybe you can find out the history of the build?

If its a d22 it has the fault what plate is it on

Its still the YD engine & still has the same dodgy components. It HAS to have the bottom end mod done to upgrade it to the same as the TD, the shells & components are weak & thin. It has to be done at Billcar for reasurance.
Personally, even with 20k, i wouldnt touch it, unless you are prepared to spend a grand or so on the mod, then it is. :thumbright:

Hi mate
Long story short, we have heard this before about Nissan repairing / fitting new engines into the d22. The ones they repair they still use the same shells and bolts that are not up to the job, also the oil feed pick up pipe needs to be modified Nissan would not have done this.

If it’s a brand new engine it will still be built with the same Nissan shells and bolts that are not up to the job

A company called billcar will do a survey on your engine to find out if it needs to be done this involves dropping the bottom end out and inspecting the bolts and shell if and I suspect the work will need to be done to cost of the survey is deducted from the bill to do the repair work

(Billcar if I am wrong in this statement please let me know)

or does the engine have a warrenty with it that way if it goes bang they have to replace it again

Have known D22's out there are on their 3rd Nissan replacement engine and they've still gone 'pop'
There has not been 1 report of a 'modded' engine failure to date :awesomework
