Hi sorry if this one has been covered before. After numerous faults, countless trips to local garages including the main dealer I'm finally at the conclusion that I need to replace my ECU on my 2010 D40. The original fault that I noticed was that the ESP and skid control warning lights would come on and with it, my truck would go into limp mode, with no engine check light at the time though. sometimes it would be 20 times a day, other times weeks between incidents. when plugged into a code reader it would only say there was a fault with the crank sensor, this was replaced by the main dealer but the code kept coming back, the dealer checked the wiring and said all was okay. Then it was noticed that in the ECU all the injector codes had vanished, yet it still run. The first run of the day is always trouble-free but after several miles, if I stop and start it becomes a nightmare with the esp and limp mode again. All the main dealer could say was "we don't know what it is so get rid of it and buy a new one"!
So as a final attempt before I burn the thing I'm thinking ECU swap, The question is can I just swap to an ECU for the same year or does it have to be the exact same part number? or do I also need to swap the body control module key reader and clocks also?
Thanks in advance for any help

I have an issue with the ecu on the wifes mini which invoves various faults coming up which should not be there after i had an engine rebuild but also found out the timing chain was so stretched that some T??t had mapped out the O2 sensor amongst other things so have sent off the ecu to the ecu doctor in plymouth who have said the will give e basically a remanufactures ecu with ll the immobilizer key stuff and my remapp moved over it will come with 12 months warrenty and has a trial period of 2 weeks to make sure all is ok for £595 plus vat but if it is not the ecu they will give me my old one back and i return the new one and they will only charge me £80 plus vat may be worth you lookibg at this option definatly a cheapish option
