So after 18 months of ownership, 25000 miles of tyre shredding fun filled miles, My navara has decided to throw a wobbly
This passed month or so it has went into limp mode twice when booting it above 4k rpm, and it has on ocaision during a long pull of acceleration suddenly miss-fire completely for a second only to resume as normal, A sort of brief limp mode, Or lack of diesel supply to compensate for the extra diesel commands of the DTE chip.
I put it down to the DTE chip being set to high, or some other fuel related parameter going out of the ecu's map range. Nothing much to fret over or so I thought.
It has always been very well serviced having got 3 oil and filter changes in that time and a fuel filter about 6 months ago
Then 3 days ago The EML light came on, it was still driving as normal, The only clue something was wrong is that when I turned the engine off, I could hear a nasty sticking motor sound coming from the EGR valve or throttle flap.
So I decided to disconnect the DTE chip and read the fault codes. I got p0403 TB (throttle body), I presumed this was what was wrong so I reset it and went from there. I also took of the throttle body/EGR valve and checked that the throttle flap was not sticking, it isn't, and the EGR pipe is blanked so it wasn't choked up.
Today the eml light came on again followed by full on limp mode, drove home checked the codes, I had an EGR valve fault and more worryingly the Fuel pressure relief valve has triggered.
I turned the engine of and on again and it was back to normal power but the eml light was still on
I gave it the boot again and it went into limp mode at 3000rpm and cut out, started her and it cut out again after 1 second, similar to what happens when the suction control valve goes wonky.
So in summary, The egr valve is buggerd, the motor is making horrible noises/sticking, the Throttle flap is throwing a fault code, The fuel pressure relief valve has thrown a fault code, and possibly the suction control valve is acting up.
I have a hunch that the fuel related problems are linked to the removal of the DTE chip, The ecu has noticed a sudden drop in fuel delivery/ consumption and has gone of its map somewhere. However it has went into limp mode again on hard acceleration even after disconnecting the battery and touching the terminals to put the ECU into learning mode, So something isn't right.
The EGR valve and Throttle body fault may also be linked.
My plan is to go for a professional remap at Torque Tronix, They should be able to delete the entire EGR function from the ECU, and throw in a good CUSTOM remap to suit my engine and it's mods.
They will also be able to raise the FPR valve parameters so that it doesn't blow off should by suction control valve be a little wonky, similar to shimming it manually,Which may also have to be done
The SCV was replaced when I bought the truck so I would be surprised if it's gone again, It will be getting removed and cleaned anyway before the re-map.
Any Nissan heads have an idea on what else could be causing problems.
EGR valves can not be got second hand as it's such a common problem, and they are 700 euro new from Nissan,
So a remap is looking like the best option here.
