This is not meant to be a direct attack on Nissan dealers here in Australia but when things like this story go, well?

Background.

Ever since taking my D40 in for a service on the 20K mark, my cruise control would intermittently not set. Turn on yes, set no. Rightio, Nissan Darwin have another look at it with many questions asked about it. No results, and when asked if I can get it repaired elsewhere, sure I could that but it would void any warranty left on the vehicle.

So.

I put up with it bearing in mind that I didn't really require this feature everywhere i went (dirt roads, wet muddy goat tracks etc), and next time it's in for the 30K service, could you have a look at it again please. In and out for it's 30K service and hurrah, it works.

I moved to Brisbane and then due for it's 40K service and Nissan Petrie tell me it's not working and could they have a look at it, sure I say on the phone. Told them about Darwins dealings with it and to see how they go. Get it back after service and still no cruise control. Very helpful staff, tried their best to sort this issue out being the first they've seen of it. They had the vehicle for over twenty labour hours, even with (outside help). No result. Because the vehicle is now out of warranty period they've got no more time they spend on it with charging me close to 2 thou dollars. They told they've changed out the modules/computer/switches in the column/ just about everything with a new vehicle and couldn't fix it. So please Mr Brown take it away. Thanks.

I have since come across this website and read as much as I could about this problem where people are experiencing the similar problems. I set to it checking the switches in various places and actually found the fault. About an hour all up, including beers, and YES, it works.

Dilemma.

Do i post the solution here and eventually Nissan get a free and easy fix to their problems or could i charge them a consultancy fee? Ha hahaha. Nah just kidding fellas, if you have anything similar to this rant above, check the switches in the footwell. My problem was the little bit of rubber covering the clutch switch depressor was worn down by using the clutch so many times. Delete "rubber", insert metal clip and hurrah! the cruise control works once more.

Cheers for reading.

Excellent.... :clappy:

so yet another point for the end user :salute: and another minius for nissan...
:x

if i read this right they charged you for not fixing it? if so i would be back demanding a refund as you fixed it so they should have been able to

Well done mate !! Nice result for you !!! Makes you wonder how the dealer can spend 20 hours and find nothing, and you can do it in an hour,(with beer ha ha !!).

maybe the nissan techs should have a few beers in the morning from now on hahahahah....

well done in sorting the problem matey!!

Sorry Lel, i forgot to add the part where they didn't charge me any money for the labour time they'd spent on the ute. I think it might have been the part where they couldn't do so as they hadn't really fixed anything except waste their time.

You couldn't know how happy i was with my self driving around the next day turning the cruise control on and off and on again just see if i'd fluked something. People driving in the lane beside would have easily seen the massive grin on my face.

My cruise control randomly stopped working recently too. My first though was switches/connections since it's always the moving parts that fail first. After inspecting and testing the switches to no avail i was a bit stumped, then I came across this post and checked my navara and sure enough the little black rubber gromet was quite worn. It was moving the switch but not enough to move the switch contacts.

Sure enough replacing the part fixed the problem! Also, as an added bonus it turns out there was already a spare next to the old one on the clutch pedal! No trip to a spares shop is even needed. Just be careful when removing the spare - don't pull it out, squeeze and push it out otherwise the rubber can tear - this happened to me when removing the worn one.

Many thanks for posting your solution, I'm sure I'd still be searching if you hadn't.

I was also wondering if the state of the clutch switch and brake switch was available via OBD? Anyone know if it is?

An old thread but it appears to be a wee nugget of information that got lost over the years. Good find. :awesomework

Regarding the switch info being OBDII readable, I've not seen this information when using the Torque app. I would imagine it's not visible even if you have Consult II or the Nissan techs would have found it.

The status of the ASCD (automatic speed control device) brake switch and the ASCD clutch switch are both available via data monitor in Consult, so Nissan tech should have been able to read it...
Not sure if it's readable by scan tool

Everyday is a school day!

Mine will do this occasionally.

I thought the problem was solved when I changed the gearbox switches, but it persists. At least now I can rule another possibility out.

Many thanks to the OP for the selfless contribution to the cause. I've done similar on the Supra owner's club as I've been tinkering with my track car for nearly a decade. Once I get more intimate with the workings of the Navara I'll be happy to share any new discoveries or solutions.

cheers mate. I have the same problem and will go and check the switch now. I can’t tell you the problems I have had with Nissan. 3rd engine in 150k. Nissan don’t want to know me.

Mr Brown, you are a legend! I had this issue start only yesterday. My 2011 R51 Pathfinder which I've had for 5½ years was booked for a 140k service today. Told the mechanic about the issue but he didn't get to look at it in the time he had.

Cruise would turn on but not set. I could set the speed limiter, so the rocker switch was working. I ruled out the clock spring because every other button on the steering wheel worked without fault.

As I dropped the car off for the service, I found a square piece of rubber on the floor. Lo and behold, I find your post and I know now that tomorrow I'll have cruise control back. I'm rapt as we're traveling a few hundred k's for Christmas and I'm towing.

Eleven years on and you're still helping people!

Please help, I have the very same problem with my Nissan Navara Model 2010 (needless to say that Nissan "technicians" could not find the solution!!!). I do not understand what exactly is this "clutch switch depressor". Does that anything to do with the clutch pedal? I would appreciate a litle help!
