This is not meant to be a direct attack on Nissan dealers here in Australia but when things like this story go, well?
Background.
Ever since taking my D40 in for a service on the 20K mark, my cruise control would intermittently not set. Turn on yes, set no. Rightio, Nissan Darwin have another look at it with many questions asked about it. No results, and when asked if I can get it repaired elsewhere, sure I could that but it would void any warranty left on the vehicle.
So.
I put up with it bearing in mind that I didn't really require this feature everywhere i went (dirt roads, wet muddy goat tracks etc), and next time it's in for the 30K service, could you have a look at it again please. In and out for it's 30K service and hurrah, it works.
I moved to Brisbane and then due for it's 40K service and Nissan Petrie tell me it's not working and could they have a look at it, sure I say on the phone. Told them about Darwins dealings with it and to see how they go. Get it back after service and still no cruise control. Very helpful staff, tried their best to sort this issue out being the first they've seen of it. They had the vehicle for over twenty labour hours, even with (outside help). No result. Because the vehicle is now out of warranty period they've got no more time they spend on it with charging me close to 2 thou dollars. They told they've changed out the modules/computer/switches in the column/ just about everything with a new vehicle and couldn't fix it. So please Mr Brown take it away. Thanks.
I have since come across this website and read as much as I could about this problem where people are experiencing the similar problems. I set to it checking the switches in various places and actually found the fault. About an hour all up, including beers, and YES, it works.
Dilemma.
Do i post the solution here and eventually Nissan get a free and easy fix to their problems or could i charge them a consultancy fee? Ha hahaha. Nah just kidding fellas, if you have anything similar to this rant above, check the switches in the footwell. My problem was the little bit of rubber covering the clutch switch depressor was worn down by using the clutch so many times. Delete "rubber", insert metal clip and hurrah! the cruise control works once more.
