What happened?......
Well, while travelling to work last week with my empty trailer, about 20mph through Brid town center.
BANG engine cut out, luckily pulled over into a large parking space............ smell of diesel

Popped the bonnet, found the common rail pressure sensor blown out the common rail, also ripped out the threads of the rail.
Rang my apprentice, he brought me the Dmax, towed my trailer to work then towed my Pathy back to my big shed at home.

Just to add, I had a leak on the pressure sensor over a year ago......Nissan dealer said it was the injection pump leaking??

Just for reference, a year ago, I packed the spill valve on the other end of the common fuel rail with one shim (from another spill valve) to see if the lack lustre performance would improve) (turned out to be a faulty SCV)

I believe what caused the high pressure to be the spill valve seems to have failed, and the high pressure blew out the pressure sensor.
I'm just surprised a pipe to the injectors had not blown instead.

Anyway I removed the spill valve and went back to work, to check it and removed the shim I had put in.

I went home early afternoon, luckily I happened to have a spare complete common rail in my shed (Bought from Andy on this forum last year) , which I fitted that afternoon/evening.
Also the plug that fitted the sensor had shattered, so had to re-assemble to work out which pin the three wires went to.
It also ripped apart a small rubber fuel return pipe upon exit.
Anyway all running now. I was glad I had all the bits to effect the repairs.

glad your sorted :thumbleft:

Is there a chance someone had removed the sensor previously? Or perhaps the dealer mech over-tightened it?

Luck you had the spares to fix it. What are Friday's Euromillions numbers?

will let you know on Saturday morning :D

I had a spark plug blow out years ago, very similar to look at ! Screwed another plug in the remaining threads and and sold it. As you do.

Wow,that must have been over tightened when it was put in, stripping the threads.

Apart from the obvious damage to the sensor, what other damage did it cause?
Interesting about over tightening, your probably right.

Talk about lucky, hows this:
I had bought one of them useless performance chip it box.
Only had it on once and found it pointless...until last week, as I was able to chop off the plug and spliced/soldered it back in the wiring loom to replace the shattered original plug.

I'm not taking any chances, just bought this on Ebay ÂŁ56 brandnew including delivery
If I never use it, I'll sell it on.

Well I guess we all know where 1 is if we need it !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd guess that the sensor has been removed previously, thread locked on and an alloy rail is always going to end in tears, hence Nissan don't replace them. I'd helicoil it if the body is thick enough to handle it.
The injector pipes wouldn't go first as the threads are external and not susceptible to the pressure of the sensor. Being that the pipes are seated to the rail and the locking nut holds the pipe in place.

Fair enough Biggi, not sure about the material of the rail, very heavy.
Yes loads of material to go at.
